A Question About Chambered LesP's

So I've seen and heard a ton about the debate on the swiss-cheese/chambered/one-hunk-a-wood LPs..and I have a question; Has anyone ever tried cutting and f-hole in a chambered LP? Like a Fender Thinline Tele or something? I think the chambered has given us a bunch of options we haven't even considere yet..so has anyone tried the f-hole yet? And with what results?

Thanks.

Well Gibson have tried it . . . The Les Paul Florentine.

But why would you want to do that to a perfectly good Les Paul as a modification?

Make it your own

It'll be unique.

I would do it, had I more than one Les Paul and woodworking skill.

Why go to the moon? When we have a perfectly good planet here!

Answer- Because we can!

Well, I was thinking about getting a thinline tele, but I'm not a fan of bolt-on necks and such....and I was looking at the bodyscans on one of these threads with the chambered LPs, so I'm considering getting a used BFG and trying it out... you can pick one up mint for like $600 or so, and pay a good luthier to do it nice nice. It would come out to about the same price as a decent tele (not an awesome one). Do semi-hollow guitars and archtops have that line of wood running through the middle that chambered LPs have tho? Or would that F-up the tone?

Maybe I should just get a florentine...

That would be a better option.

At least Gibson knew what they were doing and were not just experimenting in the hope that it might work.

I might just go ahead and try it... I mean, look at what Les Paul did with guitars... I have a feeling he'd be proud of how high of a regard we hold his guitars in, but on the other side of the coin I think he'd be annoyed if EVERYBODY babied their guitars and nobody was willing to take a few risks and experiment with em...You ever see/hear about his Log Guitar?

I really never thought about it like that.. After seeing Lester's documentary, I say that may be exactly what he'd want you to do! (if you have the spare cash, that is)

I read an interview with Steve Howe in about 1976. He recounted the tale of how he knew Les Paul was going to be at a trade fair. He decided as he really wanted to meet him in person he'd go along and' date=' just for good measure, would take along his original LP black beauty.

It had been modified somewhat; He had given it to a luthier and had the luthier remove the pups, cut out almost all the wood between the neck and the bridge, fabricate a pup-mounting plate from scratch and installed [u']four[/u] PAFs - which he then re-wired with a new output socket so the guitar could be played as a quadrophonic instrument whereby each of the pups sent a different signal to each corner of the venue and could be blended/panned/mixed/distorted/clean - you name it!

Les Paul was absolutely delighted that someone was still experimenting with ideas that had never been tried before.

The pair hit it off immediately and Steve got the BB's TRC signed by Les.

True story.

I don't know why, but for some reason I thought you were going to say Les Paul was horrified that he destroyed a perfectly designed instrument or something! LOL I should know better, though- I'm the one who brought up what he'd think.

Don't know why anyone would think that when Les Paul was clearly such a great innovator & experimentor himself?

What a stupid fxcking idea!

[cool]

Hmmmm.....

Ya know what, this never occurred to me before now.

The top is kinda thick, so it's not gonna resonate like a traditional semi-hollow will.

Will it change the tone?

Maybe not very much at all.

If it's done carefully (especially to a horrid-looking BFG) it might turn out pretty cool.

Hmmmm.....

I have stated several times before that I LIKE the sound of the chambered Les Pauls. I have 2 of them in my house (my daughter has a Fireburst Studio) and I've gigged them both with the Boogie

<<<<<--------------

and I've gigged my Wine Red also with the Prosonic, and an outside deal with both amps.

But hey, I like my ES-339 too........

The Legacy was a cheap buy on ebay which I re-covered & fitted a Master Volume mod too.

No longer have it now.

Recently got a new Mesa Dual Rec Multi Watt. :-k
