SloeGin Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Hello Gibson fans, let me introduce myself very quickly. My name is Fabian and I live in Germany. I'm 23 years old and I love playing guitar and playing the Blues. And now I hope you can help me. I'm going to visit Austin, Dallas, Memphis and Nashville from May, 26th to June, 7th. And I'm thinking about buying a used Les Paul. I had a look at some models. I like the VOS '57 Les Paul goldtop or the old Gary Moore signature or the Joe Bonamassa model. But it doesn't matter which color or model. I must play it to say that's the one I want. So, maybe you can give me some shops in the four cities I wrote above. I looked at google and I found some shops, but maybe you know another really good shops that sell used and/or new Gibsons. I'd be very happy to get some addresses! Thank you very much and best regards from Germany! Fabian
93DMTX Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I'm in Dallas. Austin is a better music town in my opinion. In Austin I'd check: Austin Vintage Guitars http://www.austinvintageguitars.com/site/Home.html Guitar Resurrection http://www.guitarrez.com/ Up here in Dallas: Charley's is a great place http://charleysguitar.com/ And, if you are comfortable buying from an individual, I'd also keep an eye on the local Craig's lists especially as you got closer to the date you'd be here. It's a buyer's market but you'd have to pay cash on a CL deal. Here's Dallas and Austin http://dallas.craigslist.org/search/msg?query=les+paul http://austin.craigslist.org/search/msg?query=les+paul
craigh Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Austin Vintage is a great place. Lots of amps. I picked up my Textosterone pedal there. Craig
SloeGin Posted May 8, 2010 Author Posted May 8, 2010 Thank you 93DMTX and Craig for you answers. I hope there will be more answers of shops in Austin, Dallas, Memphis and Nashville. What about the Gibson factory stores in Memphis and Nashville? Can you buy there Gibson cheaper than in a regular shop? Is it worth to go there? I found 3 or 4 very cool Les Paul at Austin Vintage. Maybe they have a cool vintage uni vibe there. Thank you very much Fabian

SloeGin Posted May 16, 2010 Author Posted May 16, 2010 Hello, does anybody know Rod & Hank's Vintage Guitars in Memphis? I found the name in the internet but it seems they have no website. Does anybody have got some information about that store? Thank you very much! Fabian
deepblue Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 From what i understand' date=' the Gibson shops sell a full price. msrp. that will hurt,alot.[/quote'] I wonder how they stay in business? thats outrageous.
Riffster Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Fabian, I addition to shops you can look on Craigslist.org in the respective cities you are visiting for locals selling guitars. I am not sure how well this could work for you but it may be worth a try when you come to the States. Here is an example of a local GoldTop '57 reissue for sale locally. http://nashville.craigslist.org/msg/1739722599.html By the way, we had a massive flood in Nashville recently and the Gibson Showcase here was affected, the entire Mall where is located was under water. The Mall will be closed for a while.
