Sheekamoo Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Hey guys, I have a 2008 Les Paul Standard with the stock Burstbucker Pro pickups. I decided to sit down today and adjust my pickups so both would output the same volume. The problem is, the bridge is always louder then the neck pickup. I can lower the bridge down, raise the neck, and the bridge is still louder. In fact, if I have the volume of the neck at 10, I need to put the bridge at about 3 before they sound similar. I know the bridge is wound more than the neck and is a hotter pickup, but is the difference in volume supposed to be this extreme? It seems like it would be impossible with these pickups to set them both to equal volumes.
mooboo Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 That sounds like how it should be.. Lead parts being louder than rhythm. My pickups are the opposite. My bridge pickup is significantly lower volume than my neck pickup.. Just to be sure... Neck= Rhythm, Bridge=Treble.. Right?
DiZzy-T Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 You're right mooboo, but the problem for Sheekamoo is - he probably wants to play with the same Volume or he wants to play with both Pick-Ups without beeing louder. There are many people who wants that fact, because of the higher Note beeing the same Volume that you have in the Neck Position on the Low Notes. They maybe want to switch to Solos without increase the Volume at all ... For most players they want to have increased Output just for there Solos, but there where many people who likes that kind of clearity on all Notes that the Bridge Pick-Ups they give. There problem is that kind of boost they get by switching to the Bridge... I'm sorry, but I actually couldn't help you with your problem :/
ics1974 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Yes it is normal as I just learned this myself. Try having the 496R / 500T like in my Explorer. The 500T is allot louder.
Eracer_Team Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 If you measure the DC resistance of the two pickups you'll probably find you lead/bridge pickup at a higher number.. meaning hotter. Guess you'll have to learn to roll back your volume a bit on the bridge pickup... maybe you can change the tone cap on the neck pickup to allow more highs through.. or change the volume control on the neck pick to allow the same, without touching the bridge pickup stuff.
