dleth Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Just curious, How do you like your Action set and why. My new R0 came set at about 2 64th's at the high E and 4 at the low at the 12th fret. A little higher than I've setup my other guitars but it feels really comfortable. The guitars are all strung with 10's but different brands. Do you feel it is your style of playing that dictates your preferred action or more the guitar itself? Thanks Dave

L5Larry Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I think the style of music, or style of playing will dictate your string height more than anything else. My L-5 and my ES-345 are setup completely different for styles of music and playing. In the 20-piece big band I'm mostly chunking chords on the L-5, with a few melody lines and a couple of solos. I have that guitar setup with 14 ga. flatwound strings, set as low as possible, for chording. On the ES-345 which I use in the blues band, I have the action set higher than most people would like, with 11 ga. strings. This is because of the different style of music, and also the fact that I do a lot more soloing with bluesy string bends. I feel that medium to high action facilitates string bending on solos due to the fact there is more string to grab.
