Samuel232
I was just curious to how one would go about removing an Explorer pickguard because the pickup selecter is in the way. By the way, I love all the Explorer pictures that were posted in the 'Post Your Explorer'. I loved them all :)
Laaz
Unscrew the nut on top of the switch and it will drop right out.
Samuel232
Do you think they look better with or without it?

Samuel232
What about the ones that you see that don't have a pickguard as standard?
Laaz
Those are the 84 or 84 re-issue's and they are not routed because the toggle switch was relocated to the control cavity. The Explorer pro is a different animal all together. It has a extra cavity behind the toggle swith so doesn't require the standard route.

The Exp Pro bothers me cuz of its smaller body.

e/2 Explorer
What about the ones that you see that don't have a pickguard as standard? Why would you want to unscrew a pickguard from a guitar that does not have one ? That was your initial question so I am getting confused

Samuel232
Why would you want to unscrew a pickguard from a guitar that does not have one ? That was your initial question so I am getting confused Because I don't know much about the Explorer other than the fact it looks amazing I assumed that you could take the pickguard off/on depending on your taste, but I now know that if it doesn't have a pickguard then it's a completely different branch of Explorer, the Explorer Pro. It was just a naive assumption that's all. Sorry guys :)

Hydra26
I kinda like my pro's, 1) the standard doesn't come in that color :- and 2) the smaller size is not that bad actually. The weight reduction without a loss of solid feel is good. Now, that said, I love my full size xp's too, but I have to say, I had a bit of adjustment gettign used to my first explorer (full size) as my band's rehaesal space was ludicrously small and it was like trying to strap a canoe on. Large but deceptively well balanced enough that I quickly got used to standing nearly stock still when playing as there was all manner of exposed studs, racks and other equipment. Didn't have the aissue with the pro, partly because I was used to explorers by then and partly because the tailfin doesn't stick out so far. Either way though, I dig em both, especially more so with a pup swap to 57's.
