Hey, i finally bought SG Standard from 2009 in beautiful black color :- Its sound so fantastic, looks great and really playful. But i have some questions and thinks this is the rightest place to ask. It comes with probably fabrication 9-42 Gibson strings and its really good set up but i must change strings and demise it all. I change it to 9-46 Ernie Balls and now the violin strings aren't so tight as before and comparing to bass strings its "not sounding". I think i would come back to 9-42. Setting intonation for violin strings i have problem because tuner always say its correct, i can move this on the bridge and the thing is change is tightness. This strings now produce less signal and on drive its doesn't sound ok. The second question is how to best set this ( action, pickups, measure ) to get the best sound. My inspiration is Jimmy Page so much. I also see that neck is so straight and i have little buzz from 4 to 12 fret, after 12 its really god sound and good action. Should i so little turn the truss rod to make a little bow ?

And the last is request can someone post picture of his bridge set up well for long time on 9-42 strings and action about 1,5 mm ?

Sorry for my language, don't blame me i really enjoy this guitar and will more and more !

They come with 10's. I wouldn't adjust the neck if you've never done it before. I'd take it to a luthier for a setup.

Oh, and congrats on the SG, it's nice :)

+1

With slinky strings you may have to have the action adjusted a bit higher. As Jojo says' date=' if you aren't experienced, take to a shop/luthier of a look and see.

Congrats on your new SG. [biggrin

And good luck getting the string preference and action sorted out.

Im pretty sure previous string was the bottom 42 and high 9, i compare it.

I adjusted the neck in my previous guitars. I try today and set it about 1/16 to violin side. I can say the strings are little bit softer. The buzz is a lower but high E by bending (before 12 fret) is suck so more ;d maybe gibson cant get it perfect for that light gauge. Will see tomorrow how it does. I decide to EB because Jimmy and Slash use it, but if you say about higher action maybe i must return to different strings.

Thanks Blackie for your pic, but i dont have frames [biggrin] Can you take one from top to the stoptail ? Thanks one more time

All NEW gibsons come from gibson setup with 10's . So if you bought the guitar new it should have had 10's on it. When changing string guages most guitars will require a neck adjustment. Going from 10's to 9's on the guitar you will have less pressure on the neck and headstock more than likely you have back bow in your neck due to the lighter string.............Also you said you compared the strings that came off of it to the strings that you put on it just by looking at it there isn't a whole lot of difference in the fill and look of 10's compared to 9's so they will look the same....
