jaxson50 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 I don't know... They never had a hit.... Yeah! Me neither!!
milod Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Been thinkin' about this one. I know that in the 50s and 60s there were some incredible musicians playing in exceptional bands of all kinds of styles from country to pop to rock to jazz... and they were very, very local or at most regional. So... I guess it's kinda like bronc riders and golfers who prefer just competing around home than taking on the stress of pushing for a larger audience. There's a lot more talent out there that seldom gets wide exposure. m
jaxson50 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 There are many great artist who have shaped music by influencing us yet never had a hit, when was the last time you heard the blues played on the top 40? I don't think John Mayall ever had a single hit, but no one can deny the influence he has had on rock, Here is a ruff video of the Graham Bond Organization with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce tearing it up (pre-Cream) I doubt anyone under 50 know's who Graham Bond is. I doubt anyone under the age of 30 has heard this man play (this was the first album I ever bought, I still have it)
Izzy Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I want to know what hit is, first of all. By my def, I'm gonn' say top 40 on the US charts is a hit. Did Rory Gallagher ever have a top 40? I mean, there are so many well-known-in-certain-circles-little-known-by-the-general-public recording artists out there... I'll stay true to my generation (representin') and pick Portishead. Josh James Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Ryan Adams is a fine songwriter and guitarist....I don't believe he has had a hit? J
