A Question please!!

Good evening to everyone on the Forum,

I have a few questions. I have a beautiful 2008 Les Paul Standard (Iced Tea) I love it to bits and I really wanted to ask how actually precise the measurements should be for the Trapezoid markers? I have noticed that certain strings on my guitar are not totally in line with the edges of the the Trapezoid markers!! Is this normal for this price range of Gibson guitars or is this clearly not correct? Maybe the NUT is not centred? The Guitar has been PLEKD!! Please advise. I have a few acoustics in this price range and this doesn't happen with them! I have a warranty on this instrument for 30 days, with 15 days remaining, and I just want to protect my purchase. Any constructive advice ASAP would be much appreciated. Thank You.

Best Regards,

Guitarworld.

The nut guide slots are not always spaced the same distance, getting slightly closer as the go toward high E.

But if it's something that's bothering you, have a shop/luthier take a look and see what they say.

I just took a look at one of my Les Pauls (a 2004 Standard). The 5th string is pretty much dead in line with the forward edge of the trapezoid inlays as far up as the 15th fret, whereas the 2nd string is not. (After the 15th fret the inlays get wider and narrower) Can't say I've ever looked at that before, and it certainly doesn't bother me.

To put your mind at rest I've just got my 1975 Les Paul Deluxe out and that is pretty much the same, perhaps slightly more irregular in the relationship of the strings to the inlays.

Conclusion: I would say your Les Paul is totally normal.

Thanks for the reply BigKahune,

She's still under warranty, does anyone no anything before I contact the dealer. I don't really want to let this lady out of my sight unneeded. She is so perfect in every other way. I was hoping it wasn't serious!!

Doesn't sound like anything serious to me either. Just think of it this way, if something is not perfect on the guitar then that makes it unique and more of your own..that's the way I look at it :D

.........heh heh ..........there is no perfect in man made creations..........does the guitar play well is the measure.......if you get hung up on

measurements that are irrelavent you may need some mental health counciling.
