revlyn1 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 :) Epiphone SG, Gibson SG, SG G400, SG 600, Les Paul SG, Elite Epiphone SG, Elitist Epiphone SG, Gibson Elitist SG, Elitist Les Paul, reissued this year, that year, Special, ..... etc, etc., etc.,... Who knows what they are getting. I see on the SGs 3 black plates (see left), Elitist, SG, and Gibson. My Epiphone has the Elitist black plate, its a 2005 61 reissue made in Japan (serial is engraved on the wood F500722) at least I could get that much from the Gibson site. But it seems that if I search it online all I get is the SG and Gibson black plate guitars. Anyone know why mine has the Elitist black plate?? Anyone here have one? Gearbox on Guitar1 shows its original retail at $1,299 way back but now, everything I see is $196 to $600. Reason I'm asking is because its hasn't been broken in and all my friends who I let "test" can't believe how great it sounds. SGs Rocks, glad Gibson keeps them coming. Love the forums.
Yew Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I beleive It is because epiphone make their elitist models ( Ie; the real epiphones, not gibson copies) in the same factory as they made that Awesome SG (Seriously those things can give a gibson a run for its money) so they probibly jsut ran out of the plates, so stuck an elitist one on instead (happens all the time with gibsons so its no biggie)

SGSpecialguy Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Epiphone makes several levels of instruments, as far as quality goes,, the Elitist line of guitars is the highest level that Epiphone makes, supposedly right on par with the Gibson's, so if you have an SG Elitist you have a very high quality instrument, take good care of it !!
