ezfowler Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Hello, I have a 1961 Gibson SG with 3 pickups and need to replac eth switch. The existing switch in the guitar has 3 pickups wire to 6 terminals that isolates the 3 pickups. Every switch I try to find like this for 3 pickups has only 5 terminals and allows a bridge/neck/blend selection. However, the guitar currently has each pickup isolated instead of a blend in the middle. I can't find a 6 terminal right angle switch like this. Is there another switch that can be wired this way, and how do you do it? I need to not have the blend option. Thanks in advance!
GIANTRobOT420 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 This is the best I could come up with. Hope it helps http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/
ezfowler Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Thanks, but none of those are 3 pickups, and none are an SG. I guess I have a rare configuration. The Gibson Restoration shop has what i need but wont sell them.
pohatu771 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Is this switch correct? http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Components:_Switches_and_knobs/3-way_Pickup_Switches/3-Pickup_Right-angle_Switch.html?tab=Details#details
ezfowler Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Yes and no. It has six terminals, but the wiring instructions show a blend in the middle position. When I called them, they said it was not designed to isolate the 3 pickups. Does anyone know if you can mod this switch to isolate all 3?
80LPC Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 You could replace your 3 way with a rotary switch such as this one - http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/SWR41/4-Way-Rotary-Guitar-Pickup-Selector-Switch.html Cool with a chicken head knob.
BigKahune Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 As 80LPC said. A year or two ago an SG3 was turned out with just such a setup, which was a five or six position switch. Pic from Everything SG - .
