saturn Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 This might be old news? Last night at my gig, some guy was admiring my Studio and we got to talking. He said his dad works for Gibson, but hasn't been working because the whole place was damged by the recent flooding. Most if not all the inventory was destroyed. Has anyone else heard this, or am I just really out of the loop? I guess I could Google, but it's more interesting to ask here and wait for a response
Riffster Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Looks like you have been out of the loop. The flood in Nashville damaged a lot of things not only the Gibson factory. The Gibson Showcase is closed too. I spent good part of the day looking for a missing person on a river bank and the amount of water that the river carried was crazy, maybe 15ft -30 ft above normal level at some points, I found all kinds of personal belongings including cars and u-haul trailers, building materials still packaged and anything that floats. They still have not found the guy, we had to quit looking yesterday because it keeps on raining. At the exact same time we were called in by command we found a big cottonmouth coiled and ready to strike, glad one of the guys saw it.
TommyK Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Yup, no-one sitting on their arse, crying, "Why doesn't someone DO something (for me)?"
sgman Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Is Nashville getting any help from other states? Geez I'd help out myself if I didn't live so far away.
retrosurfer1959 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Yep it seems really strange were not hearing more about it terrible flooding and it was a true disaster in a torrential storm and not caused by mans stupidity of living below sea level and being surprised when flooding happens. Nashville is doing an amazing job of handling without all the problems New Orleans were beset by.
pauline Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Gibson will open again in July http://4henry.com/ Peter
Flight959 Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I noticed in that video they only 15 mins coverage on the news... I wonder how much less they would have got if Gibson wern't there.... Hope its all working out for them now!
daveinspain Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Has anyone seen any photos of the damage done at Gibson?
deepblue Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Terrible things happen to good people. I know Nashville will survive and come back stronger than ever. I have never been (yet) but my parents have been many times. My dad told me you are made to feel welcome the moment you arrive with that southern hospitality. They even made a few friends while there. Be strong my friends, the good always catches up.
TommyK Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Yep it seems really strange were not hearing more about it terrible flooding and it was a true disaster in a torrential storm a... See my previous post. Someone sitting on the curb bemoaning the incompetence of the 'government' is better fodder for the 6 o'clock news than people pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps. It's the, "If it bleeds it leads," mentality off the media.
Riffster Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Every time I see that picture of I-24 and Blue Hole Road I thank God for making one of the best calls in my life by taking a shortcut through a country road that day. I ended up passing that creek that flooded on a different road where the bridge was still passable. The comminity has really come together after this disaster, the work will continue for months so there will be plenty of time to volunteer.

milod Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Yeah, the culture of Nashville is far different from that ... in some other places. As long as there's that East Tennessee hardscrabble "we ain't got much, but we'll do for ourselves," mentality, they'll be more like "a country boy can survive" than anything else. And yeah, that's currently almost politically incorrect. m
daveinspain Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Yupe and a huge spill in the Gulf' date=' its been a few days since Volcanic activity and finally a month or so since the last earthquake. What was that date? 12/12/2012?[/quote'] Actually I think it's 12/21/2012....

saturn Posted May 18, 2010 Author Posted May 18, 2010 It's pretty stark, the difference that some education or ignorance can make during times of disaster.
