ponyboy714
I cannot get a straight answer ( from Gibson, the Burst Bros., the, Gibson dealer I ordered these guitars from, anyone: why are the tuners on my Dickey Betts Goldtop(Grovers like they should be) different from the ones on my Dickey Betts Redtop( Gibson Deluxe keystone/tulip - not Kuson as advertised in 2002) ? I ordered both guitars from a Gibson dealer, but have never been able to get an answer that makes sense. I have been told "to keep the cost down" to "the artist requested this" to so many bs answers. This may be silly to some of you, but I just want to know! Thanks for any help!
Tim Plains
If Gibson, themselves, can't tell you, what makes you think anybody here can? If I had to take a WILD guess, I'd say they just ran out of tuners and used whatever was handy and looked similar.
BigKahune
... I'd say they just ran out of tuners and used whatever was handy and looked similar. +1 Yep. That's good ol' Gibson. They go both ways. If they end up with extra parts, they like to use them up - which runs right into what Are Nine is saying. Sometimes there's a record of these "use ups" or "substitutions", and sometimes there isn't. The "Les Paul" name plate on the neck end pieces used on 61 SGs were continuing to be used on SGs of the early 60s after the "Les Paul" name was taken back from the SG is one that is known about. ponyboy714
Well, Gibson has said it might be a cost issue or an artist request as I stated, but nothing difinitive. I thought someone might have had the same question or a more reasonable answer than yours. I could understand Gibson running out of a certain tuner, but do you actually believe that on a Custom Shop/Historic/Artist guitar Gibson would not hold up production of such a guitar untill the tuner that was intended for installation (whichever tuner that was) could be restocked? They only produced 114 copies of the redtop, so I don't believe they would have just "made do ' with whatever was lying around. My question about this discrepency was intended for people who own or are familiar with these wonderful guitars, not a "wild" guess (please notice the spelling of wild - WILD - not "while" as you spelled it). But I must thank you for you time to reply to my question. Regards.
ponyboy714
I understand and know of Gibsons attitude towards spare parts. No malice was intended AreNine, and please don't hold my reply against me. I just would like to know the real reason. I had a friend, now deceased, who worked at Gibson Nashville, as a luthier, and some of his stories about what went on on there were unbelievable. Again, no evil intentions on my part. Regards.
