cabba2203 Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Tony Iommi is my major influence. Angus is my 2nd favorite SG player. 3rd would be Frank Zappa. ...and I can't forget to mention Glen Buxton!
Riverside Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 You forgot about Sister Rosetta:
Twiz Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I gotta go with Iommi, then Angus, and Zappa. Although, of those 3 I'm pretty sure Angus is the only one that really played a Gibson SG. I think Iommi's & Zappa's main guitars were copies. -Somebody check me on that though.
SG fan 420 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I voted Iommi, but there's so many not listed. You forgot Zappa, Glen Tipton (love his black and chrome SG!!!), Santana, Buck Dharma, etc.
Artie Owl Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Great playing Blackie, you ripped it up! too bad my crappy work speakers didn't do the low end growl justice at all though.
cabba2203 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I think Iommi's & Zappa's main guitars were copies. -Somebody check me on that though. As for SG's he played a 1965 Gibson SG Special modded by John Birch before he got the John Diggins Custom SG. He also plays his Gibson & Epiphone signatures too' date=' as well as a white custom SG with a floyd rose trem. There are a couple more SG's I'm sure I'm missing. Zappa played real Gibson SG's until the copy he had made to replace the Black SG that got damaged, at least that's what I've read "online" somewhere. "Online" = YMMV
EVOL! Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 no clapton? the "fool" is awsome Hell no. As church of the sonic guitar approved his playing in Cream was, once you turn in your rock fire for pop blues and a Strat, that's it; you're cut off.
SHO Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Frank Zappa at no1. And after watching Dweezil Zappa play the crap out of his SG on the ZPZ live dvd, I'll have to say he's 2nd for me. I'll give Angus Young 3rd place.
cabba2203 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Hell no. As church of the sonic guitar approved his playing in Cream was' date=' once you turn in your rock fire for pop blues and a Strat, that's it; you're cut off.[/quote'] ROFL!
pickinbuddy Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 My favorite is....LINK WRAY, the daddy of 'em all..... Bill Turner
Tman5293 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Angus beats all! Definitely the best and most influential SG player of all time. I'm also just gonna go ahead throw myself out there for consideration... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn943j7YW4s http://www.mediafire.com/?d2on14ykrtm These are both played on my 2008 Gibson SG Special.
hans Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 My favorite is....LINK WRAY' date=' the daddy of 'em all.....Bill Turner[/quote'] Sure, but his most influential albums were recorded with a Danelectro - hence the great twangy distortion on those tracks. I'm going for Iommi, thinking of the forst four Sabbath albums... damn, they're good!
SG fan 420 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Angus beats all! Definitely the best and most influential SG player of all time. I like Angus also' date=' but I'm sure Iommi is more influential, the man pretty much created heavy metal. When did Angus create a whole genre of music? Your favorite, sure, but the most influential,I think not[biggrin']
