jimmiJAMM Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Tried it for the first time in Seattle, early 80's. Guess ya could say it was love at first bite. ^ Not exactly the traditional way of eating it but looks tasty!
MojoRedFoot Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Never had the luxury of eating it from a beautiful naked woman but I eat it pretty frequently. 2-3 times a month at least.
heymisterk Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I love sushi; nearly all of it. Great with a Kirin; don't like sake though.
DeVeeWee Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Rarely because the first Japanese is 45 km from home, but if he would live in my garden I would give him a daily visit I must say that your fortune cookies seems to be a lot more fun that the ones they serve over here:-"
EVOL! Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 As much as possible. Super white tuna sashimi is like nothing else. Could eat it all day with glasses of dry, crisp Asahi super dry.
deepblue Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Eat raw fish and youre playing Russian Roulette.....no thanks.
SweetMarie Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Mom is Japanese so I grew up on homemade sushi and udon noodles. Nothing like Mom's home cooking...ever. I agree that white tuna is one of the proofs of the existence of a benevolent deity who wants us to be happy!
Big Bill Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I love pink snapper, however it's not shown in the pic.

[img']http://sienzuf.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/sushi.jpg[/img] ^ Not exactly the traditional way of eating it but looks tasty! I think I'd be eating the yellow flowers if I was you. :-
Silenced Fred Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I love pink snapper' date=' however it's not shown in the pic.[/quote'] :- i don't think the admins would allow that...
jimmiJAMM Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 My favorite sushi pieces would have to be salmon, eel and mackerel and I like prefer my Sake cold, served in small bamboo cups, of course. Miso soup also rocks!
DAS44 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 The only time I ever ate sushi I spent the whole night throwing up
Californiaman Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Went to Yanagi's for my birthday Sunday evening. It was great. The entire family. We also did the Taipan grill. That was real entertaining. Our grill chef, was hilarious. While making the fried rice for our meals he would take the spatula and flick a pea at my kids. Then he would say, "Ha! Pea on you." It was great and the sushi was very fresh and tasty as was the grilled Tuna, Calamari, Salmon, Shrimp and New York Steak we ate for the main course. Sushi[biggrin]
Jeff-7 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 It's great, and Sake is pretty darn good too. I learned something a long time ago though, never eat sushi from a cheap Chinese buffet - death seems like such a sweet release after that.
jimmiJAMM Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 Yeah, some people have had bad experiences with it, I mean after all, it's raw fish and like oysters, sometimes you just get a bad batch but don't give up. Once you sit down to a fine spread, you'll definitely come back for more.
Twiz Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I'm a fan, but I'm not super into the raw fish thing. -The texture weirds me out. I usually go for a vegetarian option.
milod Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Depending on where, I've enjoyed sushi... Not much of it around here, though. <grin> OTOH, on one trip to Korea the sushi was unquestionably super-fresh. How'd I know? You don't wanna ask. BTW, freshwater fish do not make for safe "sushi." Because of parasites, etc., etc., they need to be cooked, even the best trout or walleye. m
yoda Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Very common misconception: I'm a fan' date=' but I'm not super into the raw fish thing. -The texture weirds me out. I usually go for a vegetarian option. [/quote'] Sushi= vinegar+rice. Not all sushi has raw, or even cooked fish in it; all sushi has vinegar and rice. Sashimi is just raw fish no rice.
Riverside Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Sashimi is just raw fish no rice. Good call. I like a chunk of fresh-caught blue-fin or big-eye tuna (with the fishing rod in one hand, standing on the deck of the boat) with a dot of wasabi. The texture seems to me to be more like smooth peanut butter than anything else. Nothing weird about it all. Other than that, I don't partake.

[/quote'] If it was anything like the plates we had on my trip to Korea, the pieces were still moving and in some cases flashing rainbow colors. Still, cephalopods make some tasty sashimi.
