Californiaman Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Taken from Pollstar Some bands and artists stay with you for life, helping you celebrate the good times and providing comfort when things go south. But it doesn’t always work out that way. You might fall head over heels for a band only to find the relationship isn’t meant for the long haul. Maybe it was simply age and what sounded great when you were 18 didn’t appeal to you when you hit, say, 25 or 30. Other times it might be a singular event like an artist going a new direction or espousing political views contrary to your own. Or maybe you just grew tired of the same old song and dance. Which bands and artists did you leave behind? Did a guitarist quit your onetime favorite band without asking your permission? Did a group switch lead singers one time too many? Or was it a case of you not leaving the band so much as the band leaving you? It’s time to talk about your musical past loves.
Big Bill Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I have to go with Zeppelin. I have been a fan since the Presence album and seen Plant in concert 3 times and Page and Plant once. Although I believe they have recorded the best rock music in history, I can't listen to them anymore. 35 years of the same music just wore me thin. Now if they came out with something completely new, I would be standing in line.
Californiaman Posted May 21, 2010 Author Posted May 21, 2010 Two bands come immediately to mind: The Eagles Aerosmith I can listen to them over and over and am still amazed by the staying power of these bands. As far as a single artist: Neil Young
djroge1 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I had the same thing happen to me for zeppelin - heard it all and it became tiresome. However, I have recently within the past month returned to listening to my zep music. The same thing has happened to me with Rush, Yes, Rolling Stones, Kiss, Bad Company, and heart. On the other hand, these groups I have never stopped: Pink Floyd, Chicago (old stuff), Triumph, Frampton (comes alive), Eagles and a few others.
cookieman15061 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 The Beatles Too much variety to ever get bored.
SG fan 420 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Yea, Clutch rules[cool] I dig 100011!! My go to bands are AC/DC, Sabbath, Priest, Metallica, Cream, The Beatles, Disturbed (don't laugh[angry]), and Godsmack. I have a love hate relationship with Zeppelin, some days I love them, the next I can't even tolerate them. I think it's Plant's voice.
charlie brown Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Beatles, Byrds, Buffalo Springfield (and their offshoots), EC, Jeff Beck, BB King,....Lord, I could go on and on. It's the music I grew up, with...and the stuff I still love! CB
vincentw Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 All DLR era Van Halen. Was too young to ever go to a show (according to my parents). Still haven't let that go.

Californiaman Posted May 22, 2010 Author Posted May 22, 2010 I must add two more to those bands I just can't quit list. Quuensryche. Having seen this band three or four times and after interviewing Chris DeGarmo, I'm a life long fan. Same with Mike Ness and Social Distortion. Growing up in Orange County I couldn't get enough of them. Met him back stage at one of the Hootenannies. Interviewed him too for one of the local papers.
Murph Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Deep Purple has a special place in my heart. Ian Gillian is an amazing vocalist, and Glover & Co. never cease to amaze. One of my favorite CD's is "Purpendicular" which is actually with Steve Morse on guitar. It was when Jon Lord was still with them. I still have to crank up DLR era Van Halen, too........
