riverofchains Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 I recently purchased a 2009 SG Autumn Burst on Ebay which didn't come with a COA for approximately $1600. I checked over the guitar very closely (spacing and finish) and everything seems to match. The finish would be very difficult to duplicate on this, but I am very experienced with Gibsons - as I own about 4 of them. I do have pictures, but I don't have the guitar with me at this very moment because I am deployed, so I haven't had a chance yet to see it up close. Is it obvious to an experienced guitar player to pick out a Chinese fake from an authentic? Please e-mail me to GodAm420@yahoo.com if you have any ideas. I can post up pictures to possibly help, but the guitar looks dead on in every aspect.
Blackie Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 ...........If you are very experienced with Gibsons why ask us anything ?........post some pics of the guitar or we can tell nothing about it. ......well ........hurry up with the pics
kevoT Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 What do you mean by 'deployed'? sorry xD. Yeah, get those pics up man!
riverofchains Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 ok. by deployed means im in the military and i bought it on ebay and sent it to my home address. i have to wait until i get home to see it in person. here are some pics linked from my myspace page: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=61772651&albumID=2878282&imageID=58924591 http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=61772651&albumID=2878282&imageID=58924595 http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=61772651&albumID=2878282&imageID=58924593 http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=61772651&albumID=2878282&imageID=58924592
kevoT Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Oh, that's cool! How long till you can see your sg, bru?
Twiz Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 It looks fine to me. I guess you could take a look at the serial number & the electronics just to double check.
BigKahune Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Looks legit. Check the back of the headstock to see if it has wings.
riverofchains Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 i would love to check the electronics, but i'm overseas. my wife doesnt really know a lot about guitars well enough to check. what are wings?
riverofchains Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 Your guitar was made at the Nashville Plant, TN, USA April 21st, 2009 Production Number: 117 that's the info i got from a website. the guitar has a 273 stamped on the back in white and the serial number is 011191417
BigKahune Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Wings - additional wood glued on to both sides of a Gibson headstock to give it the proper width. On a guitar with a clear finish (not painted), you can see the glue joints on each side of the back of the headstock. You don't see them from the front as most Gibbies on on overlay/veneer on the front of the headstock. Very, very few fakers go to the trouble of gluing on the wings and just make the headstock one piece.
riverofchains Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 i guess that's a yes. i just dont understand how i got it so cheap.
cabba2203 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Congrats! Nice looking SG, I've been wanting one in trans black. Be safe and thank you for your service!
SG fan 420 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Yea, that's an SG Diablo, if i'm not mistaken. Good score. Be safe out there man[thumbup]
riverofchains Posted May 24, 2010 Author Posted May 24, 2010 thanks everyone for their help and wishes. i appreciate it. btw it is the sg 2009 autumn burst with carved maple top and burstbucker pro pu's
Guest rogerb Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 The serial number comes up in the Gibson data base as a 2009 SG Carved top, AAA figured top, autumn burst finish, chrome hardware. Everything looks good.
