Tim Plains Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 What do you guys think of this? I came across it on eBay. It's a one-of-a-kind from the mid '80s. It's been listed a few times - I guess that's due to the $150,000 asking price. I think it looks killer but the price is absurd. A Gibson Explorer costs what, $1,000? I wonder if there was ever a lawsuit over this?
SGSpecialguy Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 cool lookin,, how bout that WHITE fretboard !! the price IS outrageous though
Twiz Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Seriously? $150,000? For that much money, it should shoot lasers, enable the player to fly, and style your hair. I mean, it's a cool looking guitar but I'd just get a real Explorer, and bank the other $149,000 or so. I bet you're right though about the law suit thing. Maybe that's why there is only one?
Riffster Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Mmmh, the fretbaord/neck headstock combo just not for me. I am not sure how collectible this guitar is, it maybe one of a kind but that's about it. Mathias Jacobs of the Scorpions plays a one of a kind Explorer with the same configuraiton, single pickup, knob and a longer scale length. He says it holds alternative tunings better than the Gibson scale.
Laaz Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I think it's ugly. I bet that white fret board would hold up really well with normal use.
swleary Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I like it, very nicely done...the price however is absurd...so Tim..will we soon see a post saying " NGD" haha
Riffster Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 If I was looking for a collectible sort of one-of-kind Explorer, I would look for one of those early 80's Korina run. Only 100 made. Or the recent 50th anniversary model. They go for crazy money but they really do not make many of these, you won't see another run in the near future
ZenKen Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I woulda put fresh strings on her before I took that closeup. Maybe then it'd be worth 150k.
MojoRedFoot Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Yeah, that thing gets posted once or so a year. I've seen it before. That seller is out of his mind.
heymisterk Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 My personal opinion is that no guitar - I don't care how rare or collectible - should cost more than the median price for a house.
Tim Plains Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 Seriously? $150' date='000? For that much money, it should shoot lasers, enable the player to fly, and style your hair.[/quote']Remember reading about a real (and unplayed) '58 Gibson Explorer that sold for for $600,000+ around two years ago? I don't think that one shot lasers or flew. I like it' date=' very nicely done...the price however is absurd...so Tim..will we soon see a post saying " NGD" haha[/quote']Yes, you will be seeing a NGD thread soon but not for this. ;)
KSG_Standard Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I don't like it...it's too white. That white fretboard would look terrible after a few months of playing.
S t e v e Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 well overpriced, but if it cost the same as a buckethead sig...what would you prefer? (as both all white guitars) i'll take the explorer
dem00n Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I don't like it...it's too white. That white fretboard would look terrible after a few months of playing. Thats exactly what i was thinking to!
DeVeeWee Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 ...the advantage of a white guitar like that is...that you can paint it over in whatever colour you like The guitar doesn't do a thing with me, the price does...
Murph Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I don't like it...it's too white. That white fretboard would look terrible after a few months of playing. I agree. It's not for playing. It's for holding on to, and trying to roll it over to the next sucker....... Next!
KSG_Standard Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Besides that, it's only got one knob!?!!?!? For $150k, I'd expect it to have at least 5.
Jantha Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Agreed... cool looking, but for that price he can cram it.
swleary Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Besides that' date=' it's only got one knob!?!!?!? For $150k, I'd expect it to have at least 5.[/quote'] Well there would be two knobs really, one on the guitar and the other playing it...just sayin :D
ZenKen Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 That guy in R9's avatar should have it. One knob is enough for the rev and he can afford some new strings. :D
S t e v e Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Well there would be two knobs really' date='one on the guitar and the other playing it...just sayin :- [/quote'] :- :-
