dvir
what do you guys say its better? roswood fretboard, maple fretboard, ebony fretboard?
VBB
EBONY!
Big Bill
Ebony is probably the better, however I prefer maple. Maple doesn't look too good on a Gibson.
blacklabelsam
That's of course a question of sound preference. Personally, I prefer maple necks with ebony fretboards. That gives a nice and crisp, but still warm, sound with a lot of overtones (great for pinch harmonics). Although, mahogany necks and rosewood fretboards generally have an even warmer sound. Question of personal taste, really.
artmaker
I like ebony. That's why I favor the LP Custom and the ES347.
Rame
I prefer ebony. That's probably because my main (only) guitar for many, many years has an ebony fingerboard.

mwink822
I say ebony. It seems a little more playable than rosewood and gives a slightly brighter tone.
phildobbin
How long is a piece of string? ;-)...

hedgemonster33
This probably isn't going to help you but there is no better or worse. Whatever you you like is what is best. Hendrix played maple & rosewood then smashed it up set it on fire and played another one. Tone is in the fingers.
guitarworld
I prefer Ebony on acoustics, and rosewood on electrics. Ebony is also harder than rosewood, so will probably not wear as quickly, depending on age, amount of playing, etc. Just my preferences and opinions!! eldiablo
I like Brazilian RW the best.
rocketman
I'm with deepblue. I have both ebony and rosewood. They are both distinct, although I'd say it's very subtle, but I like them both.
Murph
I prefer ebony, but just because I think it's classier. I don't think it makes a notice-able difference in tone, but some people would argue that. I like maple least because it either has a poly finish and feels like plastic, or it looks like a fungus factory.
jamman
define better.... exactly the point. what is better for you may not be better for someine else. chase1410
Rosewood on a Les Paul and Maple on a Stratocaster and Telecaster. My thoughts exactly.... Ive had an alpine white studio with an ebony fretboard and honestly i didnt like it...I thought the sound was a bit duller and not as warm as rosewood...so...rosewood all the way for me..
