kevoT
looked on the gibson store today and found that gibson sells spare hard cases! In the near future I'm probably going to be getting a SG raw power in white and the fact that they are selling these cases is a good thing, IMO. link to the store: http://store.gibson.com/Products/Gear/Cases/SG-Hardshell-Case.aspx
SGSpecialguy
those cases are $200 why spend that when you can get an after market case for less then half that price Ive even seen hardshell cases that would work with an SG for $49 brand new
Tman5293
They get to double the price because it says Gibson on it.
Southpa
The name "Gibson" on the case is fine, great status symbol! :) It would also be the first one grabbed by a @#$%^&* thief if the occasion should arise. The non-Gibson cases are fine, the last one I bought cost me $70Cdn after taxes. The main thing is to make sure that you bring your guitar in to be fitted because not all those cases are the same. I've seen some where the neck rest is a little off to the side and sometimes the padding is uneven. The guitar still fits but not quite centered. Yew
Dont the company that gibson contract to make their cases sell them for 150 just without the logo on, then a bit of patience cutting out a bit of card, and a can of silver spray paint, and you have a gibson case

They also sell a higher model that is black on the inside and has gold locks for 150. TKL is the maker of those cases. TKL also makes the cases for most other brands as well I've got a Gretsch case Gibson case Fender case Ovation case and a few others that were all made by TKL. Gator also makes a copy of the old cases with brown outside and pink inside for 99 bucks.
cabba2203
TKL makes great cases. If you have to have Gibson on it, you can find Gibson OHSCs on Ebay for around $80-$100 avg plus shipping. Much cheaper than $199 + Tax + Shipping.

I'm pretty sure TKL made it. It was a great case. I think buying a case off of eBay is a good way to save yourself some dough. I wonder what the people that are selling the cases keep their Gibsons in?
kevoT
forgot about those after market cases :DD i'll use a stencil and a spray can instead.
cabba2203
I wonder what the people that are selling the cases keep their Gibsons in? ;) Some I'm sure are from dealer overstock (as Ebay has become more business auction driven the average joe), then you have the folks who upgraded to an ATA case and no longer need their OHSC and then there are the people who strip guitars down and part them out. I've picked up a lot of parts from guitar strippers. Also, the horror and unthinkable....the case left over from someone's guitar that was stolen. tom brown
The 49.00 case musicians friend sells does not fit the sg quite right, i think you have to spend 99 to get the tkl or epiphone.....

I've gigged with it for a long time, it's still held together tight. TKL is good kit! I got the case back in 1999 and I don't see any need to replace it in my lifetime. The old cases, with grey lining, were made by TKL, but the newer ones (with arched tops) are Asian. I could be wrong, but I have two Asian cases (one Musician's Gear and one Golden Gate) that look very similar to the modern Epiphone cases. The Musician's Gear case (for my Spirit) is actually my favourite case. It's small, it's light, and it's sturdy.
