Classics anyone?

On behalf of a friend I played, back-to-back, a few Trads, Standards and a s/h Classic. He preferred the thicker necks in the Trad/Standards but overall (IMHO) the Classic was a far better playing instrument than the examples it was up against.

So much so that I ended up buying the Classic myself.

Then I bought another...

Like any other LP, they are great instruments if you get a good one.

I'm assuming those are used prices? Being that the classic was discontinued in 2008. If used, I think you can beat them down on those prices. I paid around $1800 for my 2008 Classic brand new.

EDIT: I just re-read the post. $1600 for a NEW classic seems pretty good.

You should talk them down to 1440. Like super said the Classics were discontinued in 2008. New old stock really isn't new if it's been in a shop getting banged up by people noodling on it.

You might be able to find a used one from an individual who has taken way better care of it, than one thats collecting "shop wear".

Traditional Plus has 57 Classics, flame top 50's neck, and white pearl inlay.

Classic (except the early Classic plus), plain top, ceramic humbuckers (500t and 496r) and 60's neck. The inlays are also a greenish yellow color which many refer to as snot green.

How much did that run you? I was planning to do the same, but it's gonna run me about $250.00 bucks

I've spent over 500 already in upgrades and a fret dressing. So I decided to leave it be.

[/quote']Since I already had the inlays, $120. I could have done it myself, but then would have ended up spending a fourtune getting the fretboard replaced.;)

My classics are the best playing guitars I have ever owned. Sounds like a decent price for a new one. I look for any excuse to post the photos! The flame Maple has ceramic pick ups and the Zebrawood has burstbuckers. The ceramic pickups are incendiary devices.

Thanks bro, I find that pickup combo interesting...i always thought they were fitted with classics or burstbuckers...Does Gibson ever use real MOP for there inlays, or just that acrylic plastic?

Yes I called the guy at the local music store and these are new. A lot of the gibson classics in the store are a few years old but new none the less. The guy who works there is always willing to haggle but...I just found a custom on sale (used) for 2400 bucks. He said if it was gone by the time I had the cash to make an offer he'd keep his eyes peeled for anything else I might like. These guys are no B.S. and are always willing to haggle. Thanks for the input, I think I might go put some money down on one tomorrow.

One question vintage sunburst or honey burst?

One question vintage sunburst or honey burst?

Well there's a good excuse to post snaps if ever I saw one...here are my pair which just happen to be the colours you mention - if it's any help to you (and apologies to those sick of the sight of them yet again).

My local music store has a few new classics for about 1600-1800 with HSC. Good deal? Or should I just save and get a traditional? Any thoughts comments are always welcome?

if the guitar is truly NIB, then $1600 isn't bad. but i would just get a traditional or used historic for $1800-2200. with the classic, i would have to swap the pickups and pots and caps which would be about another $300-$400....the stock ceramic pickups suck
