Neil young with J200!

Recommended Posts

Neil's coming to Calgary but I'll have a snowflake's chance in hell of getting a ticket [cool] That's one person I need to see before I kick the bucket. If I do get to go, I'm going to dig out my old jeans with the patches all over them, just like the back of that album.... was it After The Goldrush?

My man, Neil Young! One of the reasons I started playing guitar years ago. Nobody puts feeling in a song better than NY. Most of the time, his go to acoustics are the Martins (D-45, his #1), but early '80's, sj-200 was used quite frequently. His 12 string was one of the first Taylor 12-stringers. And we all know about Ol' Black!!!

It was, Karen! CSN&Y made three tours since WoodStock (the real one). I've been lucky I guess because I went to all three shows! A good friend of mine saw him last week in South Carolina. He played 4 hours! The encore was a 40 minute version of Rockin' In The Free World. You can just imagine!!!!

Neil played an all-acoustic solo show a bunch of years ago, and when he was here in Vancouver, I recall he had all (ten? or so) of his guitars arranged in a circle on stage, with his chair in the middle of 'em. He came in, sat down, surveyed his guitars and selected his big Gibson J-200, and started off the show with that one.

I recall he played many Martins too, but that J-200 got a fair bit of stage time.

It looked a lot like this set up:

...as you can see a sunburst 200 in the view.

Oh you're so lucky! I haven't seen C, S or N either [crying] This show he's putting on here is a solo show, but he's warned that while most of it will be acoustic, it won't ALL be acoustic. I really want to be there.

He played the Ryman the other night. I couldn't make it but know a guy who did and he said it was mostly acoustic, and very good.

I'd love to see an acoustic Neil Young show, but if he grabs that black Les Paul, I'm leaving.

No offense........

One of the best concerts I ever attended was Neil at Red Rocks in Denver. It was in September for sure, and 1986 I think. Anyway, Red Rocks is so cool and the full moon was in the eastern sky behind the stage, which just seemed magical that night. He did an acoustic set, intermission, and then an electric set. It was great.

Oh man,,, Dude I saw Neil there in the mid 80's. He started out on a chair with nothing but an acoustic guitar and 50,000 people went nuts. Was that the tour he encored and came out with the Shocking Pinks?

That's the one I saw. Love Neil. Have seen him 4 times now.
