Josh James
I guess these are the pups that are stock in my 93 standard? Anyone tried them out before? I play a ton of classic rock..ie Cream, Allman Brothers, Beatles, Mountain etc. Think I'm going to like these? J

Tim Plains
I like them in SGs but not so much in Les Pauls anymore. The 498 just sounds so shrilly. Mind you, I prefer lower output pickups. 490/490 (SG Specials) is a great combo.
yoda
Got 'em in my LP Studio, and my SG Std. I like 'em a lot. I do prefer the 490/490 better.

Kzin
I have them in my sg std, but Im thinking about changing them. I play mostly blues and they seem a little to hot and not dynamic enough. I also find that they arent very good balanced, I have problem finding a setting without either the neck being too muddy or the bridge pu too harsh. I have a lp standard 06 (dont know what the pups are) but I like the way it sounds alot better.

Kzin
Go to a shop and try a set of 57s or a 57/57+ setup Yeah, they seem to get alot of praise. How would you describe them compared to the stock pups in the std?
BigKahune
More warmth. Very even across lows, mids and highs. The plus gives you a bit more output in case want some overdrive.

[/quote'] +1....And i agree with the earlier post as well, i really disliked the 498t in my Alpine White studio, but the 490r was sweeet...id suggest a 490r + BB pro, or BB2, BB3, or the earlier stated 490/490, its a great pickup... I love the 490r but I'm not too crazy about the 498t. I now have a BB3 in my SG and it sounds way better. Also the output is very well matched. With my setup, when I flip the switch there is no noticable volume difference whatsoever. Just tonal difference.

Hermes
Well I have them on my studio and I like the bluessy sound of the 490r even you can play jazz with that Pickup. The 498t is good for rock and I like how it sounds. The only problem, almost in my guitar but I don't mind, is the midle position you can hardly ear the 498t pickup. So my selector goes from neck to bridge/ bridge to neck.
GreenSparkleLPC
My wife has a 490r and a 498t on her Les Paul Goddess, and they sound fantastic. They are extremely versatile, sound great on clean, and really get mean with high gain. I am thinking of swapping out my 57's for them or for Burstbucker Pros. duane v
Don't like them at all.,,, too muddy for me IMO Yanked them out my 2009 SG, and 2010 JJ Melody Maker, if that's what was in them. I like the tone of vintage Dimarzios and Gibson Tim Shaw pickups.
retrosurfer1959
Not a favorite of mine I prefer The BB, 57's and even P-90's. I also dislike the SG model so that could be part of the reason the SG is my least favorite Gibson model.
