MrRoundel
I know that there are some here who own, and appreciate, Epiphones. So, in case you don't ever goto the Epi board, here's one worth looking at. Methinks this guy scored a big one. So, pawn shops can still present opportunities...amazing. Early (65?) Casino. duane v
I've found that pawn shops aren't always a place for great deals, unless you come across an old school one with an old school owner that is disconnected from modern technology. I didn't read what he paid for it[confused]

duane v
I wish they were still built US.... Me too[crying] I have a 2004 USA / Japanese made Epi Casino, and it is very close in terms of feel to the 60's casinos. The folks in Nashville did a great job in putting mine together. I didn't read what he paid for it[confused'] On price: True, neither did I. However, the poster still seemed happy after reading someone's opinion as to value being around $2,500. I'm guessing he did better based on his response. I could be wrong. Either way, that is a nice guitar to have found in a pawn shop. On pawn shops' pricing: I had a friend who was the most brutal grinder I'd ever seen. He virtually always got a deal out of the pawn shop. Me, I'm not a good horse trader, so I must depend on a better eye, or more complete knowledge and luck, than the next guy. Grinding ain't my forte'. Salud. kerpalalexander23
Hey ya'll, i actually work at two pawn shops out here in Orange County. We do come across some really cool things and you would be surprised at how often someone will let there grandpa's old guitar fall out of pawn because htey dont really care about it. The problem with scoring a good deal at pawnshops now adays is the fact that we all have ebay and price guides and dealers that have alot of knowledge. Not all shops are knowledgeable so i say ALWAYS check out your local pawnshop. I scored a Gibson Bernard Allison cs-336 that was a 1 off custom made for him and picked it up for about $1400 from a shop in Minnesota. So ALWAYs check em out
Riffster
He never did say how much he paid, I was not sure if he actually bought it either. Pawnshops in Nashville are a waste of time, filled with low end beginners models or pro guitars beat to death at prices higher than new. When I am in other cities I am tempted to go into a pawnshop, here in town not so much.
pippy
Nice Epiphone. I'm sure he did alright! On the wider subject of pawn shops; I read an interview with Rick Neilsen sometime in the late '70s and he revealed a passion for checking out the pawn shops almost everywhere they (Cheap Trick for all you young 'uns) played. He said that for him the kick was getting a killer deal rather than just getting the instrument its'self - after all, he could pay as much as was asked and that would be no fun at all. Asked how much he usually paid he said all those Les Pauls he had acquired had usually cost about $50.00... He even got a real '59 from one guy who thought it was a banjo that didn't work; he gave him (I seem to remember) $10.00 for it. Changed days, Archie. StijnV
I have experienced that customers also come to us for guitars that were found at pawn shops, but it can be difficult to get the full history of the instrument before it is being sold. Fender Guy
This is FENDER GUY again! First off, I came to this site to find out what exactly makes someone buy a Gibson! I have always used Fender and in my humble opinion, there is NO WAY you can go wrong buying a Fender!!! I have played many Gibson's and see plenty of cons Vs Pros! I see that Gibson is very expensive due to their nice shiney paint jobs and heavy labor manual hours invested to manufacture a decent neck....Now guys!!! if you think Im just talking smack! Gibson actually mentions and brags how many man hours they invest in their "guitars" lol.......Anyone witha cent of buiz in mind, you can see that those guitars are simply very expensive guitars for their paint jobs and and shiny glass knobs! My Fender has plastic knobs, mass produced necks, spent $11oo and $150 on some Cobalt pick-ups and I bet my FENDER SMOKES those expensive Gibsons with huge amounts of sound, weight, body / grain variation type guitars! I would really like to hear from you Gibson guys! ~Fender Guy
pippy
I would really like to hear from you Gibson guys! In which case why don't you start a new post instead of hi-jacking this one? I'm certain you will get lots of constructive advice.
Riffster
Hey Fender Guy a lot of us here actually have Fenders, most of us love them. I have 3 of them and may get another. Don't limit yourself playing only Fenders, a proper humbucker tone is not achieved with a 25.5" scale unless you are tone deaf and "pretty good" is what you aim for. Going back to the subject I knew Rick Nielsen has a '59 but did not know he got it for that cheap, sounds hard to believe. He does have 2,000 guitars I wonder how he keeps up with them. Last time I was in a pawn shop was in Victoria, B.C. and the prices were laughable, granted everything is more expensive on that island.

MrRoundel
This is FENDER GUY again! Back in the box' date=' troll. I mean that in the nicest way. FYI: The word "again" implies that something has been done before. Your number of posts, being "1", seems to cast some doubt on your honesty from the first sentence. That said, you may really have the honest opinion that Fenders are better than Gibsons. I'm sure that the fact that you've got an opinion about something is thrilling for everyone. Out of curiosity, do any of the members here feel any compulsion to go over the Fender site and opine about how much better Gibsons are than Fenders? I doubt it. I guess the age of the average poster here is somewhere above 12 years old. My opinion: The color blue really blows away the color green. Anyone who doesn't believe it, is just not paying attention. BUT that doesn't mean we don't like Fender's as well. Most members on this forum have or do own Fender's. I have owned over 8 Fender's, but that doesn't mean I limit my playing to just one guitar or one brand.

ksdaddy
I saw that it was reported, but he didn't break any rules. His post did seem a little troll-like but I guess it's better to fight the urge to feed the trolls. No idea why anyone would join a Gibson forum and start ____ on their first post. Too much time on their hands I guess.
