Artie Owl
Damn it is extra slow today at work, so... What something have you purchased in your lifetime that cost a boat load and was the worst investment you ever made? Or rather trying to get a good deal and end up with junk. My story isn't going to break the bank, but it'll start the thread. Once on eBay in my younger more foolish days I was trolling for a camcorder and I thought I'd come across the deal of the day, a bid on a new camcorder with the hard drive (back when they were new). Starting bid was 25$. So I bid, hoping the auction wouldn't be seen by other people, and 12 hours later the auction closed for 43$. Two weeks later I recieve a box the size of a cd, and inside, a cd-rom. What I had actually bought was a list of wholesellers that would SELL me a digital camera at wholesale prices. Boy did I feel stupid, and the Cd-rom was basically fluff and junk. Someone must be able to top that.

ChanMan
2005 my house was tax valued at 2.6 Mil. Now 485 Grand. Paint the fence' date=' it'll go up to at least $500k .... /chuckle I can't really think of anything that cost very much. I bought an Arion Stereo Flanger that was pretty much a waste of money for no more than I ended up using it (none). The glass half full part was it got me a pretty good deal on a Marshall Lead 12 when I traded it in.... (our house has gone up in value every time it's been assessed...) Blackie
I hope the market will come back up for yall with the real estate. I bought an extra clean looking 92 F150.......I drove it and looked it over and crawled undr it.........I noticed it had a motorcraft oil filter that looked real old but there were no leaks.........the milage was ok for a used truck at 130k.........well the seller had put a pin hole in the dipstick tube to relieve the blow by pressure from the bad rings .......the engine was basically driven to death without an oil change from new maybe until I got it........ I had the heads done first after a burned valve.......then the bottom of the engine showed it was fuxed by oil blow by coming out the air filter intake from the pcv valve......... I know better now to do a compression check on all the cylinders of any engine might be suspect. paid $4000 and sold it for $

charlie brown
ANY "Digital" camera, or ANY Computer, would qualify...IMHO. They're all obsolete, before they even get to market, much less purchased and used! ;>b CB

Silenced Fred
Chan- you need to get a Hughes and Kettner to run those next to dem00n- have you ever used a Mac for more than 10 minutes? Easiest computer to use, and they run way faster on less memory and processor...

Just that they all change, so fast, it's impossible to keep up. Of course, I'm OLD, as dirt..so, it may not be such a big deal, to the youngsters, and more Tech savvy, who can build or rebuild, at their leisure? I can do just enough, tech wise, to get myself in trouble. LOL ;>) CB
Jantha
I wouldn't say Macs are junk... but they are pricier than they should be. A few years back I bought a used '94 4Runner. I always liked the looks of them, and I considered them a pretty decent off road rig. It never really ran worth a damn.. waste of $6000.
ksdaddy
In 1989 I bought an '81 Buick Skylark for $1200 (marked down from $1495). The dealer had to fix the exhaust, replace three tires, and the windshield before I signed the dotted line. Two weeks later the transmission went. It was warranteed but they took six weeks to get around to replacing it. A few months later the engine went, a big hole in #4 piston. I took apart another 2.5 for the piston and replaced it. Over the next couple months all the electronics went Tango Uniform and it barely ran. One big massive spark knock and surge going down the road. In January of '91 a dealer had a repo 1990 Escort Pony with 19K for $3995. It booked for $5295 so they wrote the paperwork up so they were allowing me $1300 for the Buick, making it look like I was giving them a big down payment, when in fact I was giving them the POS Buick for nothing (no heartburn on my part!). They sold it to the junkyard for $15. I must have paid my dues because the Escort was one of the best little cars we've ever owned. I would like to go back in time and buy it all over again. TommyK
2007 Ford Taurus, with 'Vulcan' V-6. Bought used for a bout 7K. Had about 30K miles on it. It was out of a rental fleet, so they went cheap on the V-6. 2 months later it blew a core plug out and all the coolant. I had presence of mind to shut her down and walk to a pay phone (remember those). New Plug and 1 year later the head gasket blew. Had it replaced, but the head must have been warped. Other than the junk motor, I dearly loved that Taurus with it's sleek liines. It rolled easy. I could drop it in neutral and coast into town from 2 miles out and still have to hit the brakes before I got to the county line. We got 36 MPGs. I'd buy another one today as long as it didn't have the Vulcan motor. Be darned if I know what I traded it in on. I was just glad to get rid of it. I may have traded it in on the Saturn SL-1. Like KSDADDY, I stepped out of the cesspool and into the petunia patch. Best little car I ever owned and will probably ever own. I may be buried in it.
