DoubleCutawayLegend
At the store where I recently purchased my SG Standard, the salesman was reluctant to fit my straplicks. I now know why. Does anyone know of straplocks that will fit a Gibson?
hans
I never had any issues fitting Schaller straplocks on either of my three Gibsons.
DoubleCutawayLegend
The problem could be solved by buying a screw with the same thread and a different size head (in my case), however some advice could be helpful to other Gibson owners. flyingarmadillo
Schallers work fine, you just need to use a shorter screw on the upper button. The Schaller screw is long enough that it can potentially go all the way through the neck and under the fretboard, particularly if overtightened. Also, Schaller screws are slightly smaller diameter than the OE screws. You can use glue and toothpicks to partially fill the hole (not recommended) or take the OE screws, drill out the holes in the Schallers to fit the screws and turn down the heads on the OE screws to fit inside the recesses on the Schaller buttons. Tman5293
My guitar teacher had a bad experience with strap locks on his Epiphone SG. The strap lock on the back of the neck got loose a fell out while he was playing and the headstock was the first thing to hit the floor. Somehow his headstock didn't break off but it broke his machine heads and he had replace them.
flyingarmadillo
At least it was just an Epi... The problem with Schallers is that the nut that holds the lock to the strap comes loose and falls off. Then the strap falls off, then the guitar falls. A little bit of threadlock will hold it in place, or you can check them once a week.
Chiseen
BONFIRE:- I use the 'Planet Waves' locking straps.. used them for years with no problems.. the design recently has got better too. (This is not and ad, it's just what I use.. I'm sure there are other companies that make them too.) No need to change anything on the guitar and you can use the same strap on all guitars. http://www.long-mcquade.com/files/2041/lg_50pla05.jpg

Larsson
i got some dunlop straplocks and they work fine altough you have to change the actual strap bit by screwing it out and putting the dunlop ones on....
GibSinCity
Never had a problem with Schallers. I use the stock screws. The only modification is to the lock used with the rear screw. It has to be drilled out just enough to let the screw sit in the lock. The worst you can do is ruin one half of a $20 strap-lock set. As for the Strap-Nuts, a good tightening with the correct sized socket to the nut, while holding the lock itself with pliers or channel locks should do the trick. I've never had to re-tighten them.
