Junta6
Hi Everyone, I am new here but I was wondering if you all could help me with where I could possibly purchase the 2008 Gibson Hummingbird Special Edition Vintage Sunburst (pic below). I have been saving up to purchase a Hummingbird for awhile, and recently saw a pic of this beauty and just felt like I had to have it. But I have been having trouble locating it and was wondering if you all could help out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ryanfender
Whats so special about "the special edition"? I would look for a Hummingbird True Vintage. I think you get a much better sounding instrument for your money.
Buc McMaster
Nice looking guitar. When you're hunting something a specific as that, and a limited edition to boot, you may or may not be successful. You'll have to contact dealers for new old stock or find someone looking to sell their personal model. Maybe a call to Gibson could reveal which dealers ordered that particular model......somewhere to start. Good luck and happy hunting............but don't hold your breath! MisterGibs
This guitar is very beautiful. If it fits you well - just grab it and don't listen opinions. If you like it, if you love the sound this is your guitar.

So I would bet it's just a standard HB with different finish.

Al Zimmerman
Hi Junta 6, I bought mine two years ago at Fuller's (via online), but I've seen some others on Ebay. Here are some pics taken with a cell phone: BTW, davenumber2 is right, the only difference with the standard HB is the color. I also changed the pickguard and the tuners. Good luck, Junta 6! Junta6
Thanks everyone for the replies so far. I am going to call Gibson and Fuller's as suggested. Al, yours is a true beauty. Just curious as to why you switched out the hummingbird pickguard for a tortoise shell one?
Al Zimmerman
Hi Junta 6, Thanks for your input! I changed the hummingbird pickguard for a tortoise shell one because of two reasons: - really didn´t like the hummingbird one (I know some may "crucify" me for this, but, anyway!) - it was a "thick" piece of plastic, not like the tortoise one So, basically, the main reason was aesthetic... Regards, AL [/quote'] I fully support your decision. May I ask where you got the replacement pickguard? I'm considering doing the same thing with my J-200. Junta6
I can respect that Al. Everyone has their preference and I have heard from some people that the hummingbird pickguard isnt their thing. Al, do you mind if I ask how much you paid for your Hummingbird at Fuller's. I want to make sure that if I can find it, that I am not getting completely ripped off because I can't find a price for it anywhere. Thanks. Al Zimmerman
Hi bkharmony, Thanks for your support. Regarding your question about the replacement pickguard, I'm afraid I can´t tell you, because I don't remember. I know I ordered it from a US web, but don¡t recall which one. First I ordered from StewMac, but it was not the colour I was looking for. So I continued the search for a blank pickguard and I found this one (nice color and semi-transparent). I took it to my luthier, who did a great job with the cutting and son on. Junta 6, I'll PM you. Kind regards, AL
