so i was thinking of getting a 57 les paul custom (3 pickups & bigsby)...and i was thinking of replacing the pickups with Antiquity humbuckers.. which are literally PAFs (i SERIOUSLY dont like gibson's PAF reissues)... or should i get a different kind of les paul? i want to make the RIGHT choice here....[confused]

Well if you the three pups sure.

But if you want a les paul with two pups and just change pups, look for something else.

Why don't you actually get the guitar before deciding how good or bad the pickups are? Pickups vary from one to the next. You may find a LP that doesn't need a pickup swap. I've replaced the pickups in my R8 and Traditional with Wolfetones. As awesome as those pickups are, I still prefer the tone from the BBs in my stock R9s. Some guitars (and pickups) simply don't need upgrading.

its not they need replacing, i want to have PAFs in the guitar... i DEFINATELY dig gibsons modern pickups like the 490..but the Burstbucker should be its own vintage-style pickup. But the antiquities are REAL reissues...but the Burstbuckers arent bad sounding!!! my point is, i want a more accurate reissue...

Do you know how many companies claim to make real sounding PAF's?

Pretty much every one I have come across.

My suggestions...

WB Pickups, or Stephensdesign. but there are many others.

The three-pickup Custom is a very fine guitar but some people find the middle p-up interferes considerably with their playing style. Have you tried one out to see if it suits you?

If you do get it then I'd suggest you wait until you have had the guitar for a few weeks - at the very least - before you decide to swap anything. Every guitar can sound different with exactly the same hardware and until you know exactly what you have you can't really know what you need to do to 'improve' it.

If you find you really do want to swap p-ups then I can mention, in addition to those PAFs previously noted, that there was a 'blind' tone-test carried out a couple of years ago with some seriously good musicians and a whole load of PAF replicas. The 'winners' were a pair of Lindy Fralins.
