Help with identifying this Gibson USA case? SG or Les Paul??

Hi. I found this case for $5 at a garage sale. I figured that I could easily get that back out of it later, but was very surprised to find them going for a lot more. I plan on selling it on eBay or whatever and I would like to identify it exactly. I don't play guitar very well, so I am a big noob here.

Could I ask for your help in identifying this case? Is it an SG or a Les Paul??? It's brown, has Gibson USA on it and comes with a pink "shroud" (I called it a liner at first). Here are some pictures. Thanks for looking and for your help.

Okay, guess I'll be the first.... I'll give you TEN dollars. Such a deal! Double your money [smile] .

Seriously, great find. Now the question- why sell it? (I do understand the profit motivation... but hear me out).

You will probably want a Les Paul at some point. They don't all come with cases. This way, you save some major bucks on the deal!

Have a look at the Les Paul Studio 50's Tribute (prominent thread on this model near the top of the page, about 9 pages long now). Look at what a deal it is (commonly selling when it comes in at well under one thousand dollars, and IMO the perfect entry level Les Paul- in fact many here well above entry level are still buying them!). It comes with a gig-bag (helps keep the price down). This would be the perfect replacement for the bag.

Just a thought, hope it works out well for you whatever you decide to do with it.

Excellent. It's an LP, then.

Sometimes a blind squirrel finds a nut. :-) Off to eBay it.

TBone, I appreciate your thoughts, but I'm just plinking around on a Spencer for fun. It was a spur of the moment thing. Profit for now. It'll make a REAL guitar player very happy somewhere.

Thanks very much for your help.

I guess he/she wants something more like 2600-3000% profit on the find. 300% ain't gonna cut it. Nice use of the Gibson board to drum up interest. All by a "mere" librarian, selling stuff for his/her kid's college fund. Nice setup speech. I guess this librarian spends a lot of time reading the stuff in the Business: Sales and Marketing section of the library. Call me skeptical regarding the details of acquisition and Ebay "setup". I may have taken the hook, but I'll leave the line and sinker for someone else. Nice case, regardless.

I just asked her if she really paid only $5 for the case over on ebay.

and there's a reply.

Q: Did you really only pay $5 for this case at a garage sale like you posted over on the Gibson forums?

A: Yes. :-) I wasn't sure if it was worth much at the time. I was surprised to find this price range online. Like I said, it's the find of the season. And thanks to all of you on the Gibson forums who helped identify this guitar case.

Back off. Don't try to screw up the OP's sale.

I'm not interested in it' date=' I can get a new one in that price range. I guess good luck in whomever this person can skin on this deal.[/quote']

Good for the OP. Since when is it against the law to make a profit? I hope OP gets a ton of money for it.

We all dream of finding a bargain like that. Good luck to the person who got the case for $5.

Would *you* have sold it for $15 to someone? No, you knew what it was worth. I didn't until I came to what my librarian's research told me would be the best online source for identification. BTW, I'm a male, hence the name "Michael" in the OP. I really do make money on Ebay for my two girls' college fund. Feel free to contribute. LOL

Which I posted publicly on the auction, trying to drive some other people here so they could be helped, too.

What happened to the guitar that came with it I wonder..........

I asked that. The young woman said that her father had gone to Louisiana for work. He was losing the house up here in Indiana, so everything in it was being sold. Evidently, the original guitar was taken in a newer case when he left. She had found this case in a closet.
