Blueshawk Shipping Advice and Tremolo Question

I contacted Gibson about fixing the neck on my Blueshawk, and they gave me an RMA but didn't tell me what they expected to do or what it would cost. I have two questions.

 

1. What's the best way to ship a guitar? I'm afraid UPS or Fedex will reduce it to splinters. How should I pack it?

 

2. Should I get them to install a tremolo? I'd like to have this option, but I don't know if the tremolos Gibson would install are any good. I am not all that knowledgeable about electric instruments. I know the bridge would have to be changed.
