donald1956 Posted May 19, 2008 Share Posted May 19, 2008 I have a 1958 Historic LP and i had the pickguard signed by Les Paul while in NY recently. Now the signature is starting to smudge so I want to frame the pickguard and install a repacement. However, a "standard" Les Paul pickguard doesn't fit, the pickup cutouts are slightly different. It is possible, and very easy, to make an exact replica of your pickguard using the original as a pattern. I have done this many times, look for someone in your area that can do this. Pattern cutting is a skill that any good woodworker, cabinet maker, guitar tech, or luthier should posess. Sometimes the biggest problem is finding the blank stock for some of the older , or off-brand, guitars. But since gibson is still making them the blank stock should be easy to find.
