durtyDevil Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Hello everyone. Just a couple of pics of my new GOTW #44 unburst with DiMarzio pickups. Picked it up today for $1700 and it plays great! :-)
chase1410 Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 beautiful unburst man!!! How does it play? You diggin the dimarzios>
Xinnix Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 If only All Mondays could be like that! Nice Guitar! Congrats
durtyDevil Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 beautiful unburst man!!! How does it play? You diggin the dimarzios> Thank you! I like the dimarzios...my last LP had the 57 classic and 57+. These are definitely a bit more harsh, but when the volume is rolled back a bit it has a nice "classic rock" sound to it. Now i'm debating whether or not to put the pickguard on lol.
Rame Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Congrats on a great looking guitar! I would leave the pickguard off and let that flame show. Very nice.
BigKahune Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Nice flame and a beautiful top. I like the finish. Congrats http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Divisions/Gibson%20USA/Guitar%20of%20the%20Week/LP-Standard-Week44/

DiamondJig Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 sweet top I got one too, a new guitar that is Slide Show
pippy Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Very sweet looking guitar. Nit-picking; I'd hunt down a couple of 'Historic' p-up rings. They are higher-sided and would give it a more 'Vintage' look. JMHO (and, of course, it's gorgeous as it is).
jamman Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Very sweet axe. Now i want 1. I feel a gas attack comming on.

Would they be slightly off-color with the pickgaurd and toggle switch ring?

Would they be slightly off-color with the pickgaurd and toggle switch ring?[/quote'] If it's an issue you could always swap those out too but bear in mind that the original '57 - '60 rings, p/g and 'ring were also liable to be slightly different colours due to there being different production techniques/plastics used in their manufacture. Some were moulded; others were stamped from sheet material etc... Also, with regards the authentic 'Vintage Look' thing; if you get the chance to scan through Yas Iwanade's 'The Beauty of the Burst' you'll notice considerable variation in 'plastic colour' throughout the book on account of differing aging conditions. Just my view but I prefer a slightly mis-matched look; it looks more realistic somehow...less homogenised... Good luck and don't forget to post snaps of any changes you make!
Riffster Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Beautiful guitar. On the pickup rings just make sure you like the historic version, I hit that plastic with the pick very often, it seems I pick right on the inside part of the ring. Who knows this may even be the reason they started making them lower.
durtyDevil Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 Thanks for all the comments and advice guys! I will be sure to post pictures this weekend when I make some changes :-)
