Installing pots

Recommended Posts

I have a Gibson Les Paul Custom from 2002.

I just got RS pots and when I removed the harness (all stock parts) I noticed the bridge pots had additional nuts in the middle of the shaft. Obviously these are used spacers to compensate for the curvature of the wood.

Is there a trick to getting the harness to fit right or is it just trial and error?

When I tried to put the harness with my new pots back in, I noticed the shafts were up against the edge of the holes. Needless to say I didn't keep it in there an am looking to you all for some help.

It seems I doing something wrong and the last thing I want to do is damage anything. That reminds me, how tight should one secure the washer and nut against the top of the guitar?
