STLBlues
"Vintage" is a term used by collectors to drive up the "value" of old guitars. Example: I have a guitar that was puchased for $450 in 1959 and now it's worth $400,000!!! Look at me, I'm elite!!!!! [-(
jaxson50
Vintage does not dictate value; rarity + condition + demand = value

saturn
'Vintage" is one of those words that's been overused and bastardized. You know, like "genius". It most likely originally applied to grapes and wine, but later started being used to describe cars, musical instruments, buildings...you name it. I'm probably guilty of using it incorrectly myself. But I think we all get the idea when we see it used. I mainly use the word to describe a sound or tone. Like the sound heard on early rock and roll recordings. Before too many digital effects and ultra high gain. In my mind, vintage tone is usually 70s and before. When I see someone, say on Ebay, describe a guitar as "vintage" I know they basically mean older. I can then look at more details and decide for myself how, rare, important or desirable it may be.
