GibbyJeff
Any suggestions or experience upgrading from the 490s. I love the Seymour Duncan 59's. I have those in another guitar and it sounds better than my LP standard (490R & 498T). I'm thinking about upgrading those as well.
Everdying
if it sounds good to u, then go for it. my personal choice would be EMG60A / 85. tho now am thinking of a pair of duncan P-rails.
GibbyJeff
Those are just a bit hotter than what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something more versatile. The Dimarzio X2N is a great pickup also you're looking for hot. I used to have one on an old LP copy back in my metal days. Man I miss that pickup now that I think about it. GibbyJeff
I love the SD 59s but thought I should get some opinions since this is my first SG. I've always played LPs or Ibanez Artists/Concert Series guitars. Was thinking solid mahagony may have different results.
ibis
You can't go wrong with SD 59s or Gibson 57s. Or try contacting Tim at Bareknuckles, if you have the moulah to spare.

Les Paul Fanatic
Emg P91's if you're wanting to go passive pickups or 81/85, 81/60 if you want to go active but know that with the actives you'll most likely have to have the body modified to house the 9 volt. GibbyJeff
Has anyone installed pickup mounting rings on the specials? I'm thinking of adding those for appearance when I upgrade the p'ups but not sure if there's enough wood under the pick guard to do it. Any experience with this?
