gibson amp love

I currently have 6 amps including 2 60's tube amps and a VJ Head - and 3 SS amps. I'd trade everything for one of those babies! Gibson makes fineassed tube amps - I played on a Goldtone (used to be called a Les Paul Jr. amp) about 2 weeks ago - small 5 watter that the shop wanted $400 for but man oh man it had "soul". I'd take a Gibson Tube amp over a Fender any day. I've always been a Les Paul man - never liked Strats even though a lot of my "heros" played them (Hendrix, Clapton, etc) - Gibson and me go well together :) My LP would sing with a GA30!

Strats feel like Balsa Wood to me - I guess I'm just used to slingin' a lot of weight.

The Gibson Gold Tone GA5 (Les Paul Jr.) and the Valve Junior very similar when you look at the schematics:

The essential differences are that the Gibson uses 220k plate resistors, 2.2k cathode bias resistors, a 22pF bright cap. Epi has made several changes to the VJ circuit including lowering the cathode bias resistors to 1.5k and using a 5.2k primary OT. The Gibson uses a Mojotone Champ replacement OT with a primary of 7.5k and has a turret board. The VJ uses a PCB. The latest versions of the VJ have 1meg grid leak resistor. The Gibson has a simpler power supply.
