4 Ohm or 8 Ohm Speaker Impedance?

Recommended Posts

I've searched around for an answer to this question but I've not found any, so pardon me if this has been asked before.

Is there any difference between using a 4 Ohm impedance speaker (using the 4 Ohm OT tap) as opposed to using an 8 Ohm speaker (with the 8 Ohm OT tap) as a replacement for the stock Valve Jr Speaker? I see that there's quite a few 4 Ohm speakers on the block at eBay, for example, so I'm wondering what the effect of using a different output impedance might be.

Thanks.

simple answer.. none.. use 4 on 4, 8 on 8 and 16 on 16... should not change anything (and on a tube amp you don't get any more power using a lower impedance, unlike your IC stereo).

now if you start putting 4 on 8 or 16 on 4 that changes the reflected impedance.
