I think its about time the Epiphone headstocks on the Les Paul's started to look like the Gibson's! The Epiphone one just looks so ugly to me and ruins the look. I really want a LP but i aint gettin one till those headstocks change and Gibson is outta my price range.

since the headstock design is part of the brand's identity, you will most likely never get your wish fulfilled and will never own a LP unless you accept the epiphone headstock as it is or drop the extra $$$ for the Gibson.

I think the Epi headstocks look fine.

They will never change. So grow up and stop whining!!

As William Axespear said, " A guitar with any other headstock would play just as sweet."

Why would they change it? Well the Explorers have the same headstock, as do the Firebirds so why not the LP's? ESP and LTD use the same headstocks, Fender and Squire use the same Headstocks!

Like i said MY OPINION, the Epiphone Headstock is ugly!

And im not whining about it, im simply requesting it.

They alread did...it's called an Orville (now Epiphone Japan). There are loads of them,

on E-bay, quite often. Usually not as inexpensive as the standard epi, but no where

close to Gibson USA prices. If it's IN Japan, the shipping can be a bit steep, but...even

with that, it's still a bargain. I (personally) like the epi head-stock...as is...but, to each

his own. If you're truly uncomfortable, with the epi signature head-stock (and what it may imply,

to some who want/need the "Snob factor" of a Gibson) you might be uncomfortable

with the guitar, as well? They're not "Gibson's," but damn nice, in their own right, just the same.

I was under the impression Orvilles were made by Gibson(Japan)?

Alltho I like the Gibson headstock better, I realise Epiphones history may well be older than Gibsons and just as substantial. So I hope they never change the Epiphone's headstock. I think it's a fitting tribute to Epiphone's history and tradition.

I've never had an issue with the headstock. Looks fine to me. All LP look alikes have different headstocks than the Gibson. It's just not an issue with most people. Everyone who's gotten close and noticed I'm playing an Epi has been assuming it was a Gibson until they got close. And then, they were impressed that it sounded so great. I've sold a lot of guitar players on Epi's that way.

My Epi Les Paul Custom has the Gibson style headstock. I was told it is a Japanese export. I love this thing. I am thinking of putting on a Kahler system but am concerned that routing this could impact its worth. I would put up pics if I knew how to do it!

Well i didnt know Epiphone was a seperate company before so i kinda understand now. Wanst trying to diss Epi at all though. I in fact have a Epi Goth Explorer and love it!! I dont like the 'snob factor' that comes with Gibson either and ive read so many reviews where people actually prefer the Epi's over the Gibson's which is why i want the Epi but just didnt like the headstock. Its not only Epi though, i dont like the KL headstock on James new KL Les Paul or any other Les Pauls except the ESP/LTD one. Dunno but the Gibson and ESP/LTD headstock just seem to really suit the Les Paul IMO. But im Defs gonna be looking for a Japanese one. And thanks to the guys that have pointed me in that direction.

I know it's a matter of taste, but in the case of the LP and SG, I like the smaller Gibson headstock better. If Epi put the same headstock as they do the Kats, I think would like that better.

On the Casino vs. the Gibson ES-330, I like the Gibson headstock better, but if Epi would put the Sherry headstock on the Casino

Epiphone%20Sheraton%20II%204.JPG

I wouldn't mind it at all. (Note, it doesn't need the word Gibson on it, I just think the "vine" inlay gives a reason for the huge headstock)

But keep in mind

1) It is only my own personal aesthetic preference and everybody has a right to their preference

2) It isn't going to stop me from buying an Epiphone -- there are other things about a guitar that to me are much more important than the headstock.

How the H**L do I put images on here?

First the image must be on the Internet somewhere. I use my own website, or in my previous post in this thread, I used google images to search for an image. I know some people use photobucket, but I haven never investigated that.

Then you simply click the icon with the mountains and sun above the post you are typing and when the URL tags appear, insert the URL of the photo you want displayed.

Note for newbies: The URL is the web address, usually starting with http://www.

When CBS bought Fender' date=' they patented the headstock design of the Strat & Tele which is why (legal) copies copy the body but not the headstock.

Maybe Gibson's headstock is similarly patented?[/quote']I believe Gibson's "open-book" headstock is patented.
