pickup without pots

Another question for you all

Is it possible to wire a pickup, for example a slimbucker (well actually quite specifically a kent armstrong slimbucker) directly to a 1/4 amp plug without damaging the pickup or amp ?

Not knowing a great deal about electronics, I thought the pots might provide some resistance or protective function rather than just volume etc

Nope. It's a throttle control.

I know that many Esquire players take that particular guitar a stage further that is is, by directly wiring the one pickup to the jack, and bypassing the controls. I plan to make my own version of this as a project, and have a simple slab Tele body, mated to a plain maple neck, and have nothing else on the body apart from bridge/pickup assembly, and jack socket in its usual place. No scratchplate, no pots, no control plate. Totally stripped down Esquire!!!
