hope im not joining in too late... but i would go with this one (your second option):

2. Boss RC-2 loop station- probably overkill for me' date=' but it would provide looping and some other cool features beyond the DD-7...

This is a very useful tool and very fun to use.[/quote']

Never too late, sir, and I value your opinion! Have you used it?

Ok guys... I got you into this it is only fair that I let you know that the circumstances have changed somewhat.

First of all THANK YOU for everyone who has offered suggestions; I have gotten some excellent first hand information and some ideas on things I had not considered. As a result, I think I am gonna trade the DD-6 for the DD-7, so that can be scratched off the list as I can do that anytime.

However, since the solid wood lawn furniture I told my wife I was gonna get her for Mother's day arrived yesterday, it seems as if I now have $500.00 at my disposal....

$500.00...

Not enough to go get a nice Vox AC 30 or a Vintage Modern combo... but... enough to certainly broaden my options.

Things that make ya go Hmmm.....

What does a VOx AC 15 sell for in your area? I've got one ordered and may be trading my Blues Jr.

MF has it for $599, so I could talk a brick and mortar retailer into matching that....

But just in looking around, there are a LOT of options at this price point, amplifier-wise...

/chuckle Looks like yet another trip to the Music store... darn it.... ;)

I second the AC-15, best amp I've ever used.

For in home use, that is.

I own one (the twin pedal version) and it is amazing, you can do almost anything, you can record a phrase and play along, or record something else on top, and then some more... It has a lot of features (i think the new single pedal has more features than my twin as mine is a little older).

A very fun and useful tool...mine stays home as i use it for late night composing and practicing, i can plug in to that thing and hours start looking like minutes...

Hey fellas, I just got back from GC. I found a new toy for my Lester and thought it might be relevent to your toy search. I found a smokin' deal on a Dunlop Cry Baby Zack Wylde Wah pedal. Regularly go for $130, but was able to get it for $90 with a couple of patch cables to boot. I think this is within the price range you were talking about.

I have never really spent much time playing with these things and decided to try out the Zack, the 535Q, Morley Bad Horsey and the VOX (not sure what model it was). Had them hooked up to a JCM 800 and borrowed a 61 SG Reissue. What a lot of fun that was, but in the end the best sounding with the greatest range was the Zack.

Just a suggestion, though it is not too difficult for a guitarist to figure out how to spend a couple of hundred bucks. Good luck.

Just an update... I am headed out to the music stores today. Specifically trying to find and play:

VOX AC 15

Epiphone Blues Custom

Anyone own or play the Epi? The reviews indicated my Les Paul will sound great~!

i played an R7 thru the Epi; didnt like it.

Lots of treble and it seemed the EQ didnt work. of course, i didnt really crank it and the guitar sounded awful on other amps. so i guess my opinion is really worthless! lol

OK... Thanks for all the input... here is the the tale...

There was no Epi to play anywhere, and only GC had the AC 15. When I got there, there was no AC 15 out. I asked the guy at the counter and he said they were sold out. I told him they'd best not be... I had called to make sure one was there before I left. So while he went to see if there was an AC15, I picked up a Telecaster and played with the Fender Blues Jr. He came back with the AC 15 and set it beside the Blues Jr. It was supposedly brand new but had a tear in the grillle fabric and looked like a demo model to me. I went and found an Epi LP... (ahhh!). I played the Fender, then the Vox. Swapped back and forth over and again. The Vox was louder... the tremolo was incredible, but the tone was dark. Not muddy... just... dark. It had an EQ, and I played with it some. It can get real thin, and you can sure dial in some bollocks, but over all the tone was just dark. This is NOT the tone I got from the AC 30. The Blues Jr., by comparison, was incredible. I don't want to take anything away from the Vox... I really wanted it to be the one, it really was a good amp. But the Blues Jr. was spectacular.

So I now own a Blues Jr, and because they have a deal with a free Fender pedal tuner, I was gonna get one of those... only darn, they were out. I am a nice guy tho, and let them substitute a Boss TU-2 :-#.

So, I end up with a Fender Blues Jr. and a Boss TU-2.

and a DD-7. Did I mention the DD-7? Traded the DD-6 in.

So that's a Blues Jr., a TU-2 and a DD-7.

Happy Father's Day!!!

And thanks again for all the GREAT ideas!

That's awesome Chan!

I may be replacing my Blues Jr. with an AC15. I'm just waiting for the AC to come in. I love the Jr. but wanted to try out the Vox, too. At the time they didn't have the AC in stock. The Jr. sounded great, so, I just went with it. ...but just to make sure I made the right decision, I went back and they said they'd order one in for me and I could keep the Jr. until it arrives. It should be in this week...we'll see.

Alright...a tough decision coming up.

The AC15 came in today. Been playing it for a while, I'm very impressed with it so far. The one thing that it lacks compared to the Blues Jr. is bass...but what it lacks in base it makes up for with nice tones, tremolo and gain.

It's gonna be a tough one, they both sound great...but one's going back...eusa_wall.gif

They have a better crunch, huh?? I took a break and played acoustic guitar for awhile, then went back.

Good Luck... two excellent amps there!

(and +10 on the tremolo... it was was exceptional)

Tell her you wanna eat at HER favorite restaurant and she could use the rest of the $$$ for a trip to the salon.

She might give you the treatment that made you a Father to start with....

:-)

Then you can spend $2' date='500 on a guitar next time the urge strikes.[/quote']

Pure wisdom indeed :(/ :D/ :D/
