Why I like the Epiphone forum better than the Gibson forum...

Since I own an Epiphone Casino and a Gibson ES-330 I visit both the Epiphone and the Gibson Forums.

Of the two, I like this one much better.

Why?

I think it is because it isn't separated and broken up like the Gibson forum is. Go to Gibson Electrics and you get a separate board for Gibson Les Paul, another for Gibson SG, and another for Other Gibson Electrics. Open the Other board and it is subdivided into Hollow & Semi-hollow guitars and Explorers, Firebirds, etc.

The Epi forum, perhaps because it is all inclusive attracts a lot more "general guitar" subjects as well as the specific model threads. I can read posts pertaining to my Casino here and I can also read about pickups, tuners, strings, guitar heros, and a wealth of other subjects.

The result is this forum is a community full of nice people and I feel I have friends here (thank you all).

I'm glad I found this one!!!!

I think it's the general lack of snobbery that always made me feel comfortable here... It's more inclusive... Everybody's welcome.

At other forums, you're made to feel like the pool boy at the country club if you're new... Nobody wants to let you into their clique.. Maybe it's because we're all aficionados of Gibson's red-headed, bastard step-child... There's a certain under-dog comradery... Or maybe we're just cool, gregarious folks...

(no offense intended to any red-headed, bastard step-children out there, BTW..)

I was never made to feel that way here.

I bought my Casino, asked a newbie question (where was it made) and I got a few very kind answers. There are a lot of nice people here. I guess that is the best thing about this forum.

That was my point, Bob...

Plain speaking, friendly people, who (most, anyway) have a good sense of humor, as well as a

wealth of knowledge, that they are not reluctant to share, at all. It's definitely a good forum,

with good folks! I (probably) spend TOO much time, here...but, I enjoy taking and sharing info.

So, I say as well....Thanks, to everyone!

I like this forum. It's gotten better over the years, too. Seems like there used to be some troublemakers, but I haven't noticed that lately. I really only look at the Electric section of this forum, and sometimes the amp section, as those are the only Epiphone products I have.

I'm a member at the Gibson forum too, but I usually hang out on the Acoustic section of it, as I have a J-45. I've never been made to feel unwelcome over there either.

My favorite guitar forum is the Acoustic Guitar Forum, or AGF. A very professionally run forum for acoustic players.

Thanks Norton,

If I can add something...it's also true compare to the Fender Forum ( Fender discussion page ). This Epi forum makes us feel a lot more like being in the family. I posted more treads in 2 months overhere than 5 or 6 years in the Fender Forum.

Everyone's really helpful here -it's great! There are tips on mods and repairs, there are reviews and there's a lot of fun going on most of the time! Great group of people here, this newbie is DEFINITELY grateful that people hang out here!

I'm definitely on board with a big "Thank You" as well ! Great people, fun conversation, a ton of information and tech advice, and not a lot of ego issues. Very unusual IMHO with this many musicians. Other forums Ihave spent time of generally had a lot of sniping, name calling (particilarly of old heads like me!), elitism, disrespect, and the regs believed and treated people as they ran the show.

My only complaint is the recent deletions of very interesting and fun threads that admittedly were not soley focused on Epi electrics. It is Epi's forum so they make the rules and call the shots, but as a friend on here said. We play music with these things and music is what these other threads were about !

Epi forum folks are the best and I am another one that probably spends too much time here, or at least says my wife (wonderful woman). Like Bob, I feel that I have friends here and genuinely value all the good conversation, fun, and comradery.

Thanks again !

This really is a cool place to hang out and trade thoughts and info. Or just read.

Kudos to all those who make it so.

It's also very cool to hear and learn about all the other's experiences and stories here. It really makes for a more communal atmosphere. It's a shame some of the posts that aren't more Epi specific get the axe. Those are a lot more interesting then the one's concerning which tuners/pick-ups/strings to swap out.

I have not been a big forum guy, but this one seems to be full of a lot of nice and helpful people. I own both Gibsons and Epiphones. This seems like the better forum for someone like me. I'm not sure the Gibson guys would want to talk about Epiphones.

Thanks to all the people here.

I have to agree vis the over-specialization of the Gibson forum. I guess they had to do it to keep things in control but nonetheless I find it to be a bad approach. I'm glad they didn't over-compartmentize this forum in the same way.

I couldn't agree more. This is a very helpful forum with a lot of good people without egos.

Yup it's a cool place for sure! What's nice too is that you can drift off topic once in a while and nobody has a cow about it like on some other forums. So what if somebody talk's about their car or bike or pets on a guitar forum...you learn a little something about the person on the other end of the keyboard. I've met alot of cool people here and hopefully made alot of friends!

Thanks Norton! someone has finally acknowledged what we suspected all along!

I own more gibsons than epi's and left a post at the G-site - the water's just warmer here...

But I've seen sharks in the water...

... And there are cool folks from the G-site that have posted lots here

on the E-site...

I belong to another forum, that I hadn't posted on, for awhile...and had decided

to "try my luck" again, there, some time ago. They were not "rude," or anything, but didn't say

"welcome back," or "Hey, where have you been," etc...like the folks here, have

a tendency to do. So that's another "family" like treatment that this forum seems

a lot more apt to do...and does, in fact. Just another reason, I think we all feel "better,"

here.

I've come to really like this forum.

My only complaint or issue is how harshly it's moderated.

IMO things shouldn't just 'disappear'.

I've deleted my own posts after thinking second thoughts about whether it might start a flaming thread. Maybe all deleted posts aren't killed by the moderator.

This forum is a comfortable place to go and get real info. Few of us are snobs and most are willing to accept the fact that a cheap (or moderately priced) guitar can be a real gem if customized properly. Being the proud owner of both Gibsons and Fenders, I consider my Epi LP custom (after much modding) to be a killer axe. After playing my LP every chance he got, our band's other guitar player showed up last night at practice with a new black Epi LP custom! He just couldn't stand it, I guess, and had to have one. I'm sure his Ibanez will stay home for a while...

I think forums in general have gotten more civilized. I attend this one, the Gibson forum, Sax on the Web, GVox forum, Windcontroller forum, and a couple of Band-in-a-Box forums and they are all very friendly places to visit most of the time (there is always the occasional tiff).

It's much better than the old usenet/newsgroup days.

Even though the Gibson forum is very friendly to me, I still like this one better for the reasons I posted at the start of the thread. By not being divided into LP, SG, Hollow, slightly off-topic, and other categories, we are more like one big happy family.

Well, I too have deleted some posts of my own, for similar reasons, or because they were

double posted (which I wasn't sure how that happened, as well)...but, there have been

quite a few, in last 2 weeks especially...that were deleted by the moderators, for what seemed

to be questionable "infractions?" And, even given that...they're not always consistent, in

what get's dumbed and what's allowed to stay. Which raises questions, on it's own.

But...it's their forum, they can DO that....and DO, quite often. LOL!
