Best Guitar & Amp Combination

What's the best guitar and amp combination you have ever used? For Lead? For Rhythm?

For me a Les Paul straight into a Budda Twinmaster plus was as nice a lead tone as I've ever gotten from any rig.

For Rhythm a Strat with Lace sensors and my blackface Fender Bandmaster with 2x10's is my personal favorite.

Either one of my Classics, and that Marshall I got. A close second would be a Peavey Mace Head, and a KMD 4x12 cab I had back in the '90's sounded pretty sweet too.

That's like asking what kind of perfume women prefer ..or...what kind of beer/cars guys like.

F*nder Bandmasters, Twin Reverbs, 57 Blackface Deluxe...

your Budda Twinmaster? Is this the limited edition goldplated socket version?

I did a recording session a couple of years back. The producer had me plug my Washburn HB-35 direct into his 1965 Vox AC-30...a vintage 1965, not a reissue. He put a baffle in front of the amp and turned it up to around 7. It sounded incredible.

Budda Twinmaster? Is this the limited edition goldplated socket version?[/quote'] No....and it was(sold it) a used early model plus....I'd never spend that kind of coin on any amp!

what kind of beer/cars guys like.......FULL/FAST ONES!

All kidding aside I think it's a perfectly viable question.....so what kind of perfume do you like?

For lead : Gibson Flying V with burstbucker pros into Fender Twin

For rythm : Fender Tele Std with stock Mexican pups into Fender Twin

And no FX required!

Wow...for me, it depends on what type music I'm playing.

But, generally:

Les Paul's/SG's into a Marshall

Fender guitars into Fender amps (any, really but especially Twin Reverb, Deluxe Reverb, old Dual Showmans)

My Casino into an old "blackface" Deluxe Reverb was "orgasmic"

335 or Lucille's, into Twin Reverbs, are pretty amazing.

Anything, into a Vox AC-30....LOL!

Can't speak about the "Boutique Amps," because I've never been able to

justify that expense, to this point, anyway. The one's I've heard, though....were nice!

A sound still in my head.. put there years ago pretty much by accident..

I'd always wanted a ric.. got a job on the railroad.. bought three!

didn't have a guitar amp at the time that was anything but sears..

so I bought this little one ten ampeg with reverb.

had a spot for plugging in my accordian too!

*heh.. *

but the sound of that ampeg cranked up with the ric ..

Well I'll answer it quick before this thread disappears as well. My best audible "perfume"

is the P*avey Classic 30 and a Sheraton II. Or any Epiphone/Gibson with a P*avey

Delta Blues (15 inch spkr).

You can have all yur "racous sounding" F*nders....Amps should sound sweet to the ears

and not having you looking for headache powders :-

???:-s LOL! OK Carverman....but, I play with 2 guys who both use Peavey's (nice amps), and everytime

I play with them, one guy especially, says he likes the tone I get with my "Fender" better!

But, if you like 15 inch speakers, try a Vibroverb, or the new Twin Reverb-15!

And..."Fender's" have never given me a headache. ;>)

I took me getting out of my "youth" to learn that one doesn't have to run an amp,

ANY amp, on 12! LOL! Of course, back in those "Good Old Days," there were not the

pedals available, to simulate that "Sweet Spot," like there are now. Good or bad,

in that regard, I still prefer the natural "Sweet Spot" tone wise, of a great tube amp,

to any pedal. But, practicality, and finances sometimes dictate compromise, huh?

Point (I'm getting there...) is, amps are probably more important, than guitars...or,

certainly at least AS important, for obtaining one's own "tone!" And, all those knobs

on both, are to be used! Some amps need more middle, or treble, and others need

the bass cranked up a bit. But, I can't tell you, the number of times I've been in clubs,

where all the knobs, on the bands amps were "pegged!" Now, that's a HeadAche!! LOL!

Yeah, CB, I used to get customers at the dealership again and again, complaining of the bad stereo in their new cars. Every single one of them had a blown speaker and had every control maxed. No headroom left for dynamics at all, and the capper is that I would invariably find one of two kinds of music -- thump-thump rap, or thrash. How could anyone expect their gear to deal with the sudden volume changes when its already running as hard as it can?

But, to stay on topic...](*,)

My (modified) Riviera REALLY likes this new boutique amp with the EL34. (I'm still upset the builder could even let me know about production delays, but I gotta tel ya, I like this amp!) I've got it set right now with the neck pickup just barely gritty on clean, middle position, tone rolled back to about 5-7 and it just gets all kind of deliciously crunchy rhythm. When I boost it a touch through a Snarling Dogs Blue Doo, it goes racous, wild and woolly as any fan of '60s boogie could want.

Yeah, I guess it's some "Right of Passage" thing? LOL! You (for sure)

can't Tell them. They just look at you like "If it's too loud, you're too OLD!" ;>)

Almost any guitar and an early fender blackface. My preference is a strat through a Twin Reverb but a Deluxe, Pro or super comes pretty close for leads.

Rythyms would have to be my Sheraton through an AC-30, or a Peavey Classic 30 or Mace VT combo. The Mace actually sort of fits with the Strat for leads as well.

I think for me it was a Marshall Vintage Modern with anything plugged into it (specifically a standard Dot and a standard Tele). Dang, that's a NICE amp. And the purple vinyl is kinda pimpy!

I gotta tell ya, though, I'm a huge fan of the Epi VJ. It's almost perfect in its simplicity.

I don't think I've ever gotten the right guitar with the right amp at the same time...at least not owning them at the same time.... one amp that was very versitile was a silver faced Fender Vibrolux Reverb. It could do great clean sounds and when you cranked it, it got a great rock tone like an AC/DC sound...But my guitar at the time sucked so the best sound I got out of it was with a friends Gibson Explorer. Right now, I like any of my guitars through the VJ and just throw in a pedal for effects or metal grind. I wish they would bring back the Galaxie 10 again though, I would get one just to try it. The schematic looks entising.

I've owned a lot of amps, tube and otherwise. The best sound I've found without spending $2000 is the Vox AD50VT and the Epi LP with SD's. I was lucky enough to find a 2x12 before they quit making them. A good hybrid is so close to all tube that it just isn't worth the difference.
