My Gibson Les Paul, which I thought was just an OK guitar was hacked a couple years back.

Funny thing about it though is I didn't really miss it 'cuz my Epi plays and sounds much better........J

Are you sure you are not confusing "jacked" with "hacked"?

Funny thing, I landed in the install/ directory yesterday when trying to go (directly) to Amps & Accessories. First thing I did today was to see if that's still there... someone deleted it (GOOD).

I wonder if someone just jacked around with the admin password and database settings through there. Who knows.

It looks like it started over there a little after 5:00 p.m. I'm not sure I know what hackers do. Glean information, try to insert worms? What is their intent?.........J

Yeah, I noticed last night that I couldn't get on, but I just thought it was maintainance. I got a screen wth a map, I can't remember what it said. I tried again this morning but the same, then after lunch it was back up and running.

Thanks for fixing it Administration and keeping us free from viruses. I will never understand why people want to create viruses, what a waste of talent.

Kids do it for fun. Not much is really cooler when you're 13 than running to your friends and pointing to Gibson's home page, "LOOK LOOK GUYS! H4X3D BY KEVIN!!!!111" and then rock out on your strat for a while.

Teenagers for the same reason, though in later years you get people like the Milw0rm group (FBI still doesn't know who they are...) that hack into foreign computer systems and assume control over nuclear strike capabilities (yes, these are teenagers), then put out a global statement saying what they did and talking about how dangerous nuclear bombs are and how a bunch of 17 year olds were a few keystrokes away from annihilating the whole damn world.

When you hit your 20s you start to get what identity theft means, and start stealing credit cards. Also hand-offs from spam companies gives you some cash for giving multiple launching points to fire off viagra ads and stock pump-'n-dumps from.

Hackers in their 20s and 30s and on tend to still be in the game on an espionage basis. Need a new formula for electrolytic capacitors? Sure I can find that, your competitors probably have some nice research already. Want to know what kind of engineering goes into some other companies' engines and transmissions? Totally doable.

The espionage field is neat because you can get legitimately hired by the government... but not because you were freelancing. Some of us actually use the skill to get contracts and find all the little holes in some random company that wants to make sure hackers can't get in (hmm how do we test for this...). If you're really good, maybe some secret cyberwarfare division in the government of your choice has a use for you (it better be the one you're living under, since otherwise you're probably committing high treason).

So yeah, same reason for blowing up a car really. Fun, political motives, hit money, etc. Once in a while someone blows up a car for a special effects scene in a movie.

Eh, I can kind of keep up with some songs now. When I built my amp I tested its blues tone by playing along with the intro to Black Magic Woman (took me like a minute to learn it)... been playing some Alice Cooper stuff, feeling out The Decisive Battle and Aria di Mezzo Carraterre, rhythm and bits of the solos from Through the Fire and Flame.

Pondering dropping a second power tube in parallel on my amp with a 9 pin socket for EL84 (it's got a 6V6 power stage, EL84 has better chime but with the right build I can get damn nice blues out of a 6V6). I'm still learning to play AND working out getting "the right tone" at the same time.

I need to play with other people is what.

Based on the Admin's reply to a Epi Forum user (not mentioning any names),

this forum is intended for discussion of Epiphone Electrics..and maybe their

related G*bson cousins, provided of course that it is for comparison.

Probably more "non topic" content that will get turfed.
