Will the Epi Elitist Dot 335 discontinue

I heard a rumor that Epiphone is going to stop making the Elitist Dot 335. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

If it's true, I am betting that they feel that it is too similar to the Sheraton to justify the two of them. This will allow them to concentrate on the Elitist Double Cut or the Elitist Alley Kat. [-o<

Gosh, I haven't heard a word, about them discontinuing the Elitist "Dot!"

I DO wish they'd re-introduce the Elitist Riviera, again, with several options,

(several color choices and Bigsby Vibrato option) being some. And, to be

honest, I'd like another Elitist Sheraton (with compasating tailpiece or a Bigsby Vibrato)

option, too. But, that's just me! LOL!

Elitist Double Cut, and AlleyKat, WildKat, would be awesome, too!

LOL Jeff.

It looks as though the ES-335s are selling fairly well. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the 2008 catalog says.

There have been rumors that the entire Elitist line would be discontinued, and these go back several years. I hope that they just remain rumors. If there is some formal announcement that the Elitist line would be going away, I'd probably grab one last one, but I don't know which.

When I bought my elitist dots a couple of years ago one of them was bad & I had to send it back to

Gibson. I had to wait about a month to get another one & they guy at Gibson Customer Service told me "when this batch comes in it will be the last one".

That was two years ago & they still have them, FWIW.

I seriously doubt that we will ever see any new Elitist models. Gibson has been phasing them out because they cut into the market of those cheap , POS, Gibson faded models. Gibson would rather give the public something cheap with the Gibson name on the headstock than a quality guitar like the Elitist. The whole thing has really turned me off to Gibson.

once again, my faded SG LH ain't cheap or poorly made...I have a friend who has a '68 SG w/ maestro (original) and plays

in a well-known "real" band...he came over and checked out my guitars and couldn't believe how similar the neck on mine

was to his '68...he played for about an hour (upside down ha ha) and was impressed, especially for the money...so good ones

are out there...

"I'd like to see a lefty Elitist ANYTHING!"

two things to mention here...first, there was a LP standard offered in ebony and cherry bust but long gone, I have it in ebony...and the mccartney casino project brings up the issue...should it even be offered in lefty? his was a righty, so perhaps it should remain that way? they do offer the texan both ways, however...

No offense Dubstar. I'm sure they're some good examples of the faded models out there and I'm glad that you were lucky enough to get one. I've also heard alot of horror stories about the line too. Improperly cut nuts, sharp, uneven frets, and just plain sloppy workmanship.

The point I was trying to make is that I feel the quility of the Elitist line surpasses the faded models and most folks were going the elitist route and Gibson didn't like it.

I think what Sexy is trying to say is that at a comparable price point the elitists are much better quality guitars than the low-end Gibs. For instance, an $1100 elitist LP Custom blows the socks off ANY Gibson LP priced $1100 or below.

And I agree with that 100%.

And, why do away with a line that is successful, even beyond their "wildest dreams?"

There certainly are enough people, around, that will buy "Gibson" guitars, No Matter...

the price! Just to have a "Real Gibson!" So, I don't know that the Elitist Epi's are really

taking that much away from the Gibson sales. Heck, I love my "cheap" faded LP Double

Cut, AS IS! If I wanted the "Custom Shop" 58 Reissue Double cut, for 2500/3000 I could

have done that...but, the Faded serves the same function, has the same pickups, just

a bit "thinner" body thickness, and not a wrap around tailpiece, or the "period correctness"

of the Custom Shop, version but it was 1/6 the price (when I got it), and has plenty of "mojo"

for my purposes. The Elitists are Great guitars, and I really don't see them fazing them out.

But....with Gibson, I've been WAY WRONG, before...LOL! So, who knows?

If the Elitists sold better, they would not be phased out. It's that simple.

Elitists don't sell as well as they should because they say Epiphone on them. That's not a slam on Epiphone or Epiphone owners: I have 11 Elitists and/or USA Epiphones (which are essentially the same), and I am a firm believer in thier quaility and value. But as good as the Elitists are, it's hard to get people to accept or even try them since they have preconcieved notions about the quality of instrument sold under the Epiphone name (though we know better).

Epiphone was successful in introducing the Masterbilt acoustics because they are priced only slightly above other Epiphones, at a price point the general guitar buying public would accept to pay for a premium Epiphone. The Elitist acoustics, which are arguably superior in many ways, were priced twice that. Gibson didn't want that line to fail; they want to sell mid-priced acoustics ($1000-$1500), and had to buy the Canadian company Garisson because it's less offensive to most buyers that a Candian guitar have Gibson on it than a Japanese one (and to obtain the manufacturing capabilty to bring them to market).

The Elitists never cut into Gibson sales, becasue they never got wide enough distribution or sold enough to make any real difference. If they sold by the bushell, Epiphone/Gibson would be making them as fast as they can.
