TMB stack -- MOSFET gain compensation?

Recommended Posts

TMB stacks cause -18dB gain on average, all the way down to -26dB for some frequencies. I'm looking at compensation by having the input cathode-follow another amplifier, possibly a 12AY7. It seems to me a MOSFET would work for this, without coloring the signal....

Input -> MOSFET -> tone stack (cathode follow, mu 0.99 but current boost) -> preamp -> power amp

Fender of course cathode-follows a 12AY7 into their tone stack, to the same end.

This came from this place, which also has a nice standby switch hack... thought I'd run it by and see if anyone tried any of this stuff yet:
