What is the difference in the Flying V's that have the strings thru the body and some the bridge? Also on E-bay there are 2 guitars that are Epis that say Gibson on the headstock-does anyone know what gives with these? Thanks

The ones that say Gibson have just had the truss rod cover replaced with the Gigson TRC. The difference in most opinions is that string through guitars hace better sustain and are generally more expernsive models. Good luck, if you pick one up you must post pics - forum rules !!!

By the way, I spent the first 14 years of my life as a hoosier - born and bred, Richmond to be exact !

Decal? It's not a 'decal'.

The Flying V doesn't have 'string through body' . The original V's had a 'V'-shaped plate with keyholes that you would hook the strings into. Later versions went with the standard stop tailpiece.

Heres a photo of my modded Epi 58 V . It does have thur the body strings, and it came with an Epipone gold sticker and a gibson truss rod cover.I put a plastic gibson logo and a plane TRC on it to look more like the original, Its a very playable and fun guitar.StanMVC-014F-1.jpg

I've been waiting for someone to ask me that. I get Vintage Guitar magazine, and in it I found a small shop in San Fran. that delt in old parts for gibsons. It was in there inventory at more $ then I care to remember, but I had to have it. The store has gone out of bizz, but there are others where another might be found. AS far as the V goes, I put a Gibson classic plus humbucker in the neck and a 490 in the bridge poss. and it is a joy to look at, and a joy to play.Stan
