Purple Flake

Hey,

This is not a post saying that I have one of these - just really a query...

Back in the mid '90s i seem to remember that Epiphone made a range of coloured flake topped Les Pauls, green, red, blue, purple etc. I had a mind at the time that I'd like a purple flake les paul if I could afford it - they were about £350 which was a lot to a 17 year old at the time (especially as I'd dropped £389 on my Sheraton II). Does anyone have one of these - just to relive some old GASsing? I never see them come up on ebay - this leads me to think that they didn't particularly sell that many of them, and that those that were sold are very loved by their owners!

I used to have an Epiphone catalogue with them in - but who knows where they are now. Anyone seen any or have any pics?

I remember those too! I was torn between one of the flake finish Les Pauls and a silver flake DeArmond M75T, and ended up getting a Sheraton II as well, funnily enough. There's another thread on here called 'old epiphone catalogs' - Twang has found possibly the very catalogue you're thinking of. He may post pics if you ask nicely.

I remember seeing a blue one and a purple one at Steve's in Montreal, not long after having bought my Classic Birdseye. I saw a used green one at Wopmelodie once too. There was a member on the old forum who had the silver flake one, he ended up selling it to a local 'celebrity' and unfortunately that turned into a bit of a bag drive. They pretty much disappeared from the catalog as we came into the '00s...

I saw one for sale recently. Purple/pinkish flake which is just not my thing. I read a post from a flake owner the other day his had a long tenon.

Yeah, I'm not sure I could handle a purple glittery guitar these days, but back then they seemed like a lot of fun - and they probably are still if you have one. At least it'd be a fairly rare Les Paul in the world of the cherry burst!
