28v6r Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Probably not long enough If I'm brutally honest...although I ten to average 1-2 hours every day, longer at the weekends.. I take a practice guitar away with me whilst I'm away from home on business and the hours do increase then but at the mo I'm not away that often...
custer Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Although I don't have a set practice schedule, I play almost every day for at least and hour.
neptune2000 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 It varies wildly for me (I don't gig, just play for fun). Sometimes I go days/weeks without playing, sometimes I play for 4 hours straight. When I'm feeling inspired, I love looking up at the clock and wondering where the time went. Unplugged on the couch next to my wife when we watch TV until she glares at me, and in the other room when she's watching "her" shows (seems I'm not alone there :D I've realized to get to where I could be (used to be) that I need to structure myself, e.g. "an hour a night, 15 minutes technique, 15 minutes scales/theory, 30 minutes playing/learning songs/having fun!" Glad to see some of you others use a schedule. I'm very excited by this, and hope I can really get back in the groove because in about 3 months I'll have a son and my free time will prolly change. Don't worry though, I've already cleared it with my wife that I can for the baby!
Johnny Fever Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 I try to get in at least one hour every day, but sometimes late at night when I can't sleep I just noodle and run scales without plugging in until I can get back to sleep so now and then it is all night.
RobinTheHood Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 I try to practice every day for at least half an hour. If I play past a full hour, I'm usually treading into new territory, which is always my goal, but dont always have the time or energy for it. At the very least I'll play for about 15 minutes whether i feel like it or not. I feel that if I dont push myself at oleast a little, then I'll fall into the habit of not playing much at all. I usually have one day a week that I dont play. This varies depending on my schedule.
byrds1965 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 I try to play some everyday. I keep an acoustic leaning on the couch in the living room and if TV is a drag I turn down the sound and just watch and play. Practice I really only spend time on songs when we learn a new one for the band I'm usually the one who has to learn it and show it to the rest and I have to call the changes out to our bass player and show Jeff. He knows by looking what I'm playing but once past open chords he doesn't know the names. We learn a new one about every 2 weeks and work it up and something may drop off the set list. Other than that I sit and play what I know and if your mind wanders you stumble on to stuff and start working something up or play bits you have and see if anything comes next to finish it off yet.
