cirex
Hi. I've just bought a Epiphone SG. I wanted to know information of the year and country of manufacture. I read that is from 1960 in one page, and another said it was from 1996. Can you please help me? Thanks. RotcanX
Well there's no way it was made in 1960; Epi wasn't building G-400s back then. Even Gibson did not introduce the SG body style until 1961. There may be some confusion because Epi claims that the G-400 model is a 'faithful replica' of a 1962 SG (okay, everybody, stop laughing). The true date of manufacture will be embedded in the first one or two numeric digits of the serial number. For example, if the serial number is I96041234, the guitar was made in April (04) of 1996. If the serial is something like S4061234, then there is only one 'year' digit meaning it's from the early nineties, June 1994 to be exact. The letters 'I' and 'S' denote the plant of manufacture, with I= Saein and S = Samick.

RotcanX
Cool. Your guitar was made in Korea at the Fine guitar plant, in September (09) of 1996; it was the 422nd guitar made that month.
