Roswell
Well, we've all been over this once before I'm sure, but just wondering what you gents thought on the subject. Personally, the only guitar I own that I don't feel comfortable with in a gigbag is my Dot (as it's semi-fragile, at least in my eyes). That being said, I really don't care at the moment as I'm not flying with it, and I'm the only one handling it. What do you guys think?
dubstar
case, mainly because of protection (in the house, as well) but also because gigbags remind of school backpacks...
rlajack1217
I agree a case is the only choice.

pohatu771
My Casino and Fender Strat are in hard cases. My acoustic is in a gig bag. My Squier Strat wasn't in anything, until I got the Fender, which came with a deluxe gigbag, so the Squier is in that now. The Gibson acoustic is currently in the "alligator" case that someone in Kalamazoo put it in back in 1965, but as soon as it becomes playable again (hopefully sometime in the next two weeks), I'll invest in a hardshell case... which puts me in an odd situation, because I don't actually know what case I need for it - it's not a dreadnought, and it's not a 000, which seem to be the most common cases. RotcanX
You tend to have gig bags because you got them for free. You tend to have hardshell cases because that's what your guitars deserve...

charlie brown
Well, I use both...depending on the circumstances. Obviously, the hard-shell case is the best protection, of the two...but, I tend to like Gig bags, for certain guitars (solid bodies), especially for "local" gigs, where there's not much "set-up," as in a "Jam" or small bar/club gig. Extended "road" tours and such, I use a HS case, or flight case. But, that's just me. CB

FrankS1281734010
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU: ...buy a hardshell case so you don't have to learn the hard way like I did.

snookelputz
They break in the case, too, if its knocked over or hit wrong. Only broken headstock I personally ever had was a brand new guitar, in case, double boxed. I recommend the Gator GL hard soft case or whatever they call it. Serious protection, light as a feather. s1120
Case all the way. There not THAT pricy. Heck I tryed to find a bag for my cheap strat copy, and I could not find one for under $35!!!! A case you can get for under $70.
Just Strum
No way. That Tele cost me about $75. The case is worth almost $300. Heh. +1 Dot, Strat, and Wildkat - hard case The rest, sitting on a stand and don't even have gig bags. I like gig bags for quick trips to the music store or friends house, but never for my main three.
Ricochet
Hard case. However I've changed my opinion about soft/gig bags ever since recieving the gigbag my PRS SE came with. Really a high grade quality bag.
Dave
I have cases for all my electrics, except the new goldtop, I goes in the SKB if it goes out of the house. The Gibson gig bag that my Studio came in back in 1992 is a real hefty, stiff, thickly padded gig bag. I would use it around the house just to protect the finish, but not for a trip off the premises. I'm torn between the Gator and another SKB for the goldtop, but I'm kind of waiting for a deal.
muletrane
All of mine have hard cases and that's were they stay unless I'm playing them.
ef_in_fla
I have hard cases for most of mine but I have to admit that gig bags are easier to deal with (zip zip). If I ever take one out of the house you better believe it leaves in a hard case. Tip: check with pawn shops next time you need a case or bag. Sometimes they accumulate so many they start throwing them away. I've bought some nice ones for $5.

Recycled Rocker
I'm the same, every guitar has a hard case, I've one gig bag and that has the cheapie strat in it. All the others reside in their case unless playing them. Hard shell all the way. Cheers RR

Charles Obscure
I remember when guitars came with cases when you bought 'em. What happpened to that? I have a hard case for almost every guitar I have, with the exception my two G400s, where the case is used to either transport or store one of 'em. I have five gig bags laying around, one is for an acoustic bass which rarely leaves the house. The rest are various sizes, used as temporary housing for new guitars until I can get a hardshell case. So yeah, I'm a hardshell case kinda guy. They stack much better than gig bags.
Notes_Norton
For a gigging musician, there is only one option - ATA approved Hard Case - either SKB or Gator, but it MUST be the flight case, not their low-end case. Even if you never fly get the flight case because for a few bucks more you get much more protection. My Epiphone Casino travels in an SKB case, Leilani's Parker in a Gator. I do the same for my saxophones, wind synthesizers, PA Gear and everything else except the mic and speaker stands. My instruments are precious to me, and the flight case is the best protection I can give them. A flight case is cheap insurance when you think of the price of replacing your instrument. I won't leave home without one. Insights and incites by Notes
