Best Amp For.....

Probably going to get a lot of tube amp responses and rightfully so, but I'm recommending one of the ADxxVT series.

I play in a room that is 10x11 and my options are the AD30VT that I have or the epi Valve Jr. Even the 5 watt Valve jr gives my ears a workout and turning it down causes some loss in tone.

The AD30VT on the other hand provides a lot of volume, pre-sets, 2 channels, distortion...

However, the key feature of the AD30VT (or I believe any in the series above 30w) is the output control where you can dial output from 1w to 30w. What this provides is the ability to lower the volume (baby sleeping, wife has a "headache", late at night, early in the morning...) without losing tone. It is a perfect amp for my needs.

I almost traded it as part of a package to get a Peavey Classic 30, but in my music room I would be deaf within a day or two.

I picked up one of those Vox AC15CC 15 watt amps about a month ago and put an alnico blue (the Warfdale sounds good as well)) in it and it sounds great if you want that smooth chime sound. I had a Marshall AVT50 some time ago and the Vox kills that one. I also have a Marshall DSL50 and 1960A cab with G12H's in it and you can't beat that combination for rock, but it's out of the budget range here. I think the Vox competes well in that range. The epi VJ also sounds great. The AC15 will get loud enough for most any smallish duty and you can always mic it. It will probably be my main now because of the type of music I am playing.

I have a nice variety of guitars (casino' date=' strat,les paul) whats the best all purpose amp for use at home for around $600. thanks[/quote']

IMO for home use only I'd narrow the field by just looking for a good SS amp. If I only played at home that's all I would need to tell you the truth. Again just IMO but really, no need for a tube amp just for that. I'd still give them a spin just to safisfy any curiosity though.

At any rate you would have a greater amount of choices within your budget with the Solid States. Allot of pretty good SS amps out there, plus with allot more options than tube amps as far as build in multi effects or amp modeling. Although for myself I've never cared for on-board effects on amps, but hey different strokes for different folks...still an option not found on many tube amps.

I've tried Epiphones, Peavy, Vox, Roland, some with amp modeling and some without, and to me they all sounded pretty darn good. As I said before I'm not to crazzy about amps with any build in effects on them, actually sometimes didn't even really cared for some of there reverb, but do like some of the build in amp modelers.....like on the Vox AD-VT series. I'm afraid no getting around doing the demo thing though...so many chooises out there.

For myself I pretty much play through tube amps, but I use them to play out and when I buy gear it's with that in mind. So,with that said...

...if I was going to buy a SS amp it would be a USED Roland JC-120. I know, they're big and heavy, but IMO they are one sweet sounding SS amp that can be used for both home and out. I've seen them in the used market for anywhere between 300 to 400 bucks. Add multi effects unit to it for a couple extra of hundred bucks ( then again depending on the unit, and eventually you will be adding pedals to it anyhow) and you'll have more tones for HOME use that one will ever need I think....plus you'll be able to drag the AMP to play out if you choose to later on.

Anyhow that's my 2 cents worth.....and as always, as is all the above, just my opinion.

+1 for the Vox AD30VT amp. I have it and really like the sound. Plus it has tube-like sound since it has tubes, and my, what a variety of sounds you get. Plus, it has a headphone jack and the ability to turn down the power output portion, allowing you to get great tone at a home-friendly volume level. It sounds great with both my LP and my Strat.

I think I noted this here before (you start forum hopping and never really sure where you post - Hello Cleveland).

I think an amp that is going to be big is the Peavey Vypyr series. My guess is the 30w and the 60w (the 60 being a tube amp) are going to be the big sellers in the group.

Should be hitting the stores pretty soon.

I would like to check out the Epi Valve Sr, but Gibson is now saying December release.

Read where someone said they seen Best Buys has got them listed for 209.00....not in stock yet though. It was for the vypyr 75, the 100 watt was for 499.

I'd like to check the epi sr too.

Are you busting my b's?

At Sweetwater

30 = $199

60 = $445

75 = $300

100 = 499

I think they (Best Buy) might have had the 75 for $299, not $209. Hey, you never know.

LOL...I wouldn't bust your b's. Not on purpose anyhow. I belive the next lowest price he mentioned seeing on the web for the 75 was for 299.99 like you say (or 300).

I don't know what to think about Best Buys yet as far as buying gear there, guess no diferent than anywhere else I suppose. Took a peek through there web and seem to carry the same brand name stuff as any of the other places. One of our Best Buys is right next door to our local GC, another one's next to one of our George's Music (smaller chain but similar to The Guitar Centers).....shoot...sorry, getting a bit OT here.

The Vypyrs look interesting. Hopefully one of you will get one of them soon after they come out and give the rest of us a review (as in' date=' is the Vypyr 30 better than the Vox AD30VT).[/quote']

That's exactly what I'm waiting for, but ordering the 75w from Best Buy at $209 is tempting.

Speaking of "in home" amps...anyone tried out the new Fender "Champ" series all tube amps?

Reviews seem to be good' date=' but...living out in the "Sticks," I haven't been able to try one, yet.

Maybe, one of them could/would be an option?

Spent about 10 minutes with one in my buddies store in Danville IL. Played with US strat as he is a Fender dealer and liked it. Would like to spend some more time with a HB guitar. GC and SA here local can't seem to keep them in stock. I'm thinking it wil be my next amp purchase, but I want to spend some more time with one and one of my guitars.
